It is a terrible thing. Just because it is declining does not mean it isn't happening!! How would you feel if your daughter comes home crying and you ask her why and she answers, " When I was supposed to be _____________ I actually had sex with someone and now I am pregnant!" The chances that they become pregnant is still very high and what child should be put in that position?
I hope that poll is wrong. A 5th grader has no business having sex. I can't believe a 5th grader is physically mature enough to have sex. What the hell are they putting in these school lunches-growth hormones?
How can you think it's a GOOD thing? Many ADULTS that I know cannot handle the stresses of having a child. A 5th grader does not have the maturity to prevent pregnancy let alone the intimacy of sexual relations. I not only find it a BAD thing, I find it utterly DISGUSTING.
I definitely think that is a bad thing. If they're ten, they're not responsible enough to deal with the side affects of sex.
1) STDS...they have hardly any sex education or common sense
2) pregnancy. god, a 10 year old pregnant. that's a sad sight indeed.
3) meaningless sex...sex is supposed to mean something. it's not just a motion to be cool.
4) pedophiles...do 10 year olds have the discretion to know who to and who not to have sex with? they will be taken advantage of by highschoolers or even by grown men/women.

OMG no way that would mean 10 and 11 year olds are having sex. Uhhh.. no. Maybe in some cases but there would have to be prior sexual acts (molestation, assault)by others for a 10 year old to WANT to have sex. Please get better facts.

No, it is NOT OK. Sex is just NOT a physical act. It is emotional, psychological, spiritual, and requires adult maturity to handle the repercussions of the act. Children (and I include any up to the age of marriage) do NOT have the developmental capacity to handle that.
Sex can be (in the wrong setting and that is mostly the case) demeaning (do you like to be seen naked by others?), clumsy, painful, embarrassing, and self depreciating. It causes one to lose respect for themselves (so they go out and engage in one sexual act after another with multiple partners), lose respect for others, and get a screwed up view on what a solid marriage-partner relationship should be.
Sex becomes lust, there is no love involved. It is done because "without having sex I will lose him/her". Better they should be lost. . . permanently.
We won't mention the obvious. You say pregnancies are going down but that has nothing to do with the fact that 5th graders and younger are already sexually active. It is because birth control for older teens is more readily available. The pregnancies are occurring with these active preteen and young teens.
STDs however are on the way up. . . way up and the biggest growth area is in preteens and teens.
Your thinking has a lot of holes in it. I suspect you are already sexually active and as a result to feel better about yourself you are OK with others getting emotionally and physically hurt by participating in unwise, and foolish sexual activity outside of marriage.
. . . and we wonder why there are more teen suicides, self loathing, guilt, worry, and stress. . . . go figure.

This is NOT good. I would not expect my little sister to be having a boyfriend, let alone having sex!? This is horrible. I hope your source is wrong, because this is innappropriate for such young children. 5th graders at my middle school already try to act "ghetto" and speak bad language and I am shocked since that didn't happen when I was in that grade. This is not good at all! If they are sexually active, then be worried because that will lead into teen pregnancy and children. This is definitely a bad thing. Sex should only occur after marriage!

Hey Kristen, teen pregnancy increasing means more TEENS are having sex it doesn't mean that the range is lower because 10 year olds have no sex drive and if they did then they still dont know how to have sex. Also Your science teacher teaches Science not SEX ED or FAMILY Life OK so you shouldn't trust him that much about that and you misinterpreted what he meant by a long shot i will prove it because I want you to ask him if what he meant was that now 1/4 10 year olds are having sex.
The girl even told me that she found this out at wikipedia which is the most untrusted site you can use for info because anybody can write information about stuff on that site so some drunk guy probably thought it was funny to write this BS on wikipedia and see who believed it and it is obviously funny because you all believed this cr*p when all you have to do is listen to family life class and you would know that this would not be possible unless the 2 little kids were forced to by some crazy guy and didn't know what was going on. THEY ARE NOT! that's a lie. that cannot be true. do you know that fifth graders are 10 years old? most of them don't even know what sex is then. this is impossible.
