Is it possible to get pregnant before your period has started? (Like you've never had a peroid)?

My mom said that this wasn't true but I was just wondering. Even thought she is a teacher, she is not always right.

Answer:
Yes most definitely, you will ovulate before you bleed for the first time. This means that at some point before your period you will be fertile and able to conceive a baby. If you haven't had a period - and don't know when you are likely to be fertile, then you may fall pregnant by accident before you have even had a period.

Also I think that being sexually active is likely to bring on your period sooner.
It is not possible your mother is right

no if you havent had even started periods theres no way youre pregnant
It is possible to get pregnant before you begin having periods. The reason is that you ovulate before your first period starts and no one knows when that will be. But, 2 weeks or so before you get your very first period, you could get pregnant.
VERY DIFFICULT, but you will most likely ovulate before you menstruate, even for the first time. And, if ovulation occurs, pregnancy can.
Your first period is the shedding of the womb lining AFTER the first egg has arrived in your womb - so if you have sex just before your first period then YES you can get pregnant.
Your mother is right. You cannot get pregnant if you haven't yet got your period but if you're at the age where your first period is due any time, then yes, you could get pregnant. Science says it should be but I've never heard of a case like that. So I would still agree with your Mom.
Well, you only get your period after you ovulate and the egg is not fertilized. The same would be true for the first time you get your period - before you ever know you are getting your period, your body will ovulate for the first time and then, if there is no sperm to meet the egg, you will get your first period. So I guess, yeah, if your timing is right, and you have sex within the few days before or the day that your body decides to ovulate for the first time, you CAN get pregnant - then, instead of getting your first period, eventually, you will realize that you are preganant (since you are not expecting a period at that time, you will not know you "missed" your period, so you will likely not know you are pregnant right away). Anyway, if you are contemplating that sex before your period is SAFE, I would think again! You never know when nature will decide to bless you with the gift of fertility!

Your mom should be a bit more responsible than that!
Theoretically it's possible, although it's VERY unlikely. If a girl ovulated before her first period, and she had intercourse and the egg was fertilized, then she could, in theory, become pregnant. However, many girls who are just beginning their menstrual cycle do not ovulate at all for a few periods, or do not ovulate regularly at all. Also, as the body is getting itself regulated early in a girl's child-bearing lifetime, the body will often not produce the appropriate amount or a good balance of hormones that would enable a pregnancy to continue.

Edit: I have to comment on a couple of the responses I saw below mine: Ovulation is NOT the first part of a cycle; the cycle begins about 2 weeks before ovulation. Secondly, ovulation does NOT trigger a period; a woman on birth control does not ovulate, but still has a period (unless of course she's taking the kinds of pills where you only have a period every 13 weeks, which ought to be plenty of proof that it's NOT triggered by ovulation). Menstrual flow is triggered by the fact that the body's hormone cycle has NOT been interrupted by the hormones created by a developing embryo and accompanying placenta; when the hormones causing the uterus to retain its lining drop low enough, the lining is shed. This is the same reason that menstruation occurs during the week where "inactive" pills are taken from a birth control pill cycle; these pills actually contain no ingredients at all - they're just to help people keep track of when to start the next package, so the hormone levels drop, and menstrual flow occurs.
YES! It is possible! The reason is that you ovulate a few weeks before your first bleeding cycle (Ovulation is the first part of your overall cycle) and you can become pregnant as soon as you ovulate. You won't likely know when the very first time it that you've ovulated until your period comes (approx 3 wks after you ovulate) and if you have sex in the mean time, you can and will get pregnant.
Yes. You ovulate before you have a period. Sooo, the chance of getting pregnant actually comes before that first period. I know this is correct because it happened to a neighbor of mine when I was a teenager. It is common sense..if you don't ovulate, you won't have a period so ovulation comes first.
When you get your period, it means you have produced an egg which can be fertilized to make a baby. How do you know - maybe tomorrow's the day you will start having your period? So - don't take any chances.
No, you'd have to go through puberty first and begin ovulating (having cycles with a period) before you can get pregnant.
I don't think that can happen because you can't get pregnant before you have reached puberty
No it is no possible.
no way can't happen, no flow no baby
Of course it's possible. Your period is to expel the lining of the uterus AFTER you've ovulated. Quite a few girls get pregnant this way, especially from adult men who think having sex with a girl apparently too young to have a period yet is "safe." Just because you haven't had a period yet doesn't mean there isn't an egg floating down your tubes into your uterus at that very moment.

How come I know this and you women don't?

And Marie is right. I have heard that sexual activity can trigger the first ovulation. Meant to mention that. Thanks, Marie.
If you never had a period no u can't. U are not a women yet SO don't have sex.
yes
