How come guys get locked up then decide that the want to be apart of the family?

i know that pisses me off. my father was like that when i was growing up. i only saw him on my birthday, thanksgiving, christmas & some other various holidays. then when he went to jail when i was 11 he wanted to become a father figure to me and i felt that it was too late. he got out when i was 20 and didn't want anything to do with me or my infant. So i got pissed and stopped taking his phone calls and stopped caring about him. Then he got married in august and invited me and i didn't go. i didn't want to be apart of his lies.
I guess the reason they decide to be family men when they're behind bars is because we know where they are and they can't go anywhere so they decide to do the right thing until they're released.

As hard and unfair as it may seem, some kids need to 'burn to learn'. you are lucky, at least he wants to ba a part now. some just continue down the road and still only call when in trouble.
regret, I'm sure that some people are truly remorseful for their actions. There was a line in a movie "You're only sorry because you got caught" I forgot what movie it was from, but it's the truth.
