How can i catch my 12 yr old smoking?
Answer:
leave pack of cheep smokes laying around, make sure to put cig lights in them. if he is smoking near the house you Will hear them explode and I doubt he will want to smoke again. Cheep smokes will pop and the tip will blow. GPCs are the best. Winstons, marbrols, camels and such will just make a pooping sound.
You can also look through his stuff when hes not around. Kids need privacy but at the same time you have to keep tabs on them.
Sniffing cloths wont work he could have friends that smoke.
usually when kids smoke they will carry clone, gum, things to hide the smell. But again that's not a full proof, some boys carry that stuff just in case they end up talking to a girl.
The best way to know for sure would be snooping and talking.
watch your 12 yr old the whole time
get one of them fake nose/glasses/moustache/eyebrow jobbys with a hat n scarf,
walk down to that shop n whoop their ***!
Smell the clothing. Smoke is hard to miss.
Do you have any idea where he might be doing it? Set up a video camera in that location and tape him.
offer him a cigarette and see what he does .See his reactions and have the no smoking talk with him!!!
why do you need to catch them in the act? are you the adult here? take control.
I do not know how to tell you to do that but you can take him to the doctors, they have certain test they can do to see if someone is smoking.
Catching them is the easy part, making them stop is the hard part.
if you think they're smoking (this sound crude but isn't meant to be) just sniff their fingers!
That's how I caught my son
gee, he's probably not going to let you see him doing it...
i suppose if you know he is smoking than you don't have to catch him in the act.
catching him is only going to push him to hide it more, possibly avoiding you entirely..
when i was 12, i thought i knew everything...i thought i was so smart.really it was just arrogance...those sure were the days...
send his *** to http://www.thetruth.com and scare him with cancer.
or hide all toothbrushes and toothpastes and simply bring up the subject of his breath.
no chance there to smart just smell his breath
you can always smell it on clothes or my mums classic to catch my brother, she would say she was off to the shop and he used to light up as soon as she left then she walked straight in and caught him..LOL
Smell his/her hands. Cigarette smoke stays on the hands for a long time, even after washing. But if they are smoking hours and hours before seeing you, you might not smell it.
Disguise yourself as a teenager and hang around the local shops, recreation ground. Fit a smoke alarm in the bedroom and tbathroom. Offer a ciggy. Ban from eating mints. Go for it.
Ask them if they have a "light", see what their response is... smell their hair, smoke lingers for a while... don't fall for that "it wasn't me" ...
oh, how i remember the days when my Dad caught me...
he just told me to stop b/c it will kill me but he couldn't punish me for it b/c he smokes. i wish i would have listened to him.
i think you should just do what my dad did and just come right out and ask him and hopefully your son is a bad liar and you will be able to tell when he tells you 'No dad i don't smoke". hehe Good luck
HIDE SOMEWHERE WHERE YOU CAN SEE HIM WALKING HOME FROM SCHOOL.IF HE IS GOING TO SMOKE HE WILL DO IT WITH HIS FRIENDS .TO TRY TO LOOK COOL
R u sure he is? Follow aways behind to school , one morning. Or u could send him on an errand & follow him. Why is it so important to CATCH him tho?? Get on-line help & pass on info, like they tell us to, to our kids? About not smoking...punch in something like "SMOKE-FREEKIDs.com", on ur internet browser & C what u get. GOOD-LUCK...
Unfortunately in the world today, there are many ways you can catch your child smoking. Kids however, have learned the basic coverups. Just smelling their clothes and hair and breath may not work. Most kids do not know that if they smoke there is a residue left on their fingers. So, the next time you want to try to catch them, smell the fingers. Like the pad of their thumbs, and the insides of the pointer and middle fingers. Even if the kid washed their hands, there is a pungent smell still left for about a 8 hours. Check that. Good Luck and Happy Hunting.
leave cigarrettes laying around in open view, and then tell him/her you are going to the store - will be back in about 30 minutes.pull off...then park and walk back...worked for me - caught my 15 yr old smoking that way.
don't bother to catch him just smell him, tell him he has been seen, tell him all the reasons for not smoking, if he don't listen stop his pocket money , then go on the Internet and find out as much as possible about lung cancer, and show him. take him to your local smoking clinic and let the doctor show him all the things they show about smoking, and all the drugs that are in cigarettes, like arsenic- formaldehyde, that should turn his guts, by the way if you smoke at hope don't bother you are already telling him it's ok. good luck..
light him on fire. that usually makes them smoke.
this is a child who is not legally eligible to be a smoker. if you have an issue of trust with your child make sure he is supervised at all times.
he has no rights until he earns them. freedom is not free. you care about his health and you must do what you must to to protect him.
offer a reward to your neighbors for videos of him smoking and then confront him about it. sometimes tough love is the best kind of love. if a two year old was about to put his hand in the fire you would grab it and slap it.
be tough but gentle. catching him smoking does not warrant a slap in the face. but a severe punishment is called for. you want to make sure this behavior stops until he is old enough to legally decide for himself.
perhaps taking him to an emphasima ward or renting a video of someone having their blackened lung removed.
good luck
You shouldn't have to catch him in the act in order to talk to your son about the dangers of smoking. Would it make sense to preach to your daughter about the dangers of sex after you've found out she pregnant or caught an STD? Open a conversation with him now, (no yelling). Find out what his thoughts are on the topic. Even if he knows already, tell him all the negative side effect and be specific: The cost, the smell, the diseases, the addiction, circulation issues (yes, down THERE). It helps if you and your spouse set an example of course by not smoking either.
R u sure they are smoking? Imean if you havent actually caught them, how can you be sure? If I had my doubts I would smell their clothes b4 washing them, search their pockets.
I would tread carefully, you don't want to fallout just because of a nagging suspision!!
leave some cigs out. where your child can see them and see if they have gone and then you can accuse him/her.
If you think your 12 yr old is smoking why are you here asking us? You need to confront this right now. If you suspect it what are your reasons for that? If you don't smoke and smell smoke on the child's clothing then talk to the child. That's the only way to handle it.
Smell his fingers .. i do that randomly to my girls not that i think they smoke but i still check now and again , being a non smoker myself i can smell cigarette smoke very easily ..
smell their fingers. my mom did that to me. I would be out smoking weed wit my friends then i would make sure my mouth didnt smell but its harder to get the smell of ur fingers even if u wash. when she smelled it on my fingers there was no more denying it
Put a small hidden camera in his bedroom.
just make hints for like a week , like it smells like (whatever hes smoking) and mabey on wednesday say it again. Then clean his room while he is at school, chances are hes hiding it in there. But if you clean it and dont find it then go to his school early and sit outside and watch what he does/where he goes. You cant confront him unless you have proof or you will come of as a jerk if he really isnt smoking..
good luck
