Has rap affected people today?

I see it a lot. Teenage pregnancies and sex, drug and alclohol abuse, rule-breaking!

And sagging pants, jeez, pull 'em up unless you want to be pantsed easily!

I hate today's rap and some of the R&B (Irreplaceable played on the radio 6 times in two hours!) because it changed society. I listen to old school rap and electronica. You know why? It doesn't affect me!

So what do you think: Has rap affected today's people?

Answer:
I know... It doesn't effect me, but it has effected others.

"S.E.X. "and "Promiscuous" are good examples.

MTV is also like that. Like in "Exposed", they asked how many times have you had a one-night-stand, and when someone said no, they said "unfortunately". Or in "Next", some girl got nexted because she was a virgin. MTV is acting like it's bad if u don't have sex!! That's just messed up.
in a way...it makes us...teens feel more in control...i mean ...its bas is great and we react to loud music...so .it has afected us...but i dont think if in a bad way...its just sort of apreciesion 4 the coloured people.by the way...they do a great job...their music is the most popular:):D.uh have to admit...it does sounds great.hip hop and r&b rule:D
THANKYOU, SOMEONE FINALLY AGREES WITH ME!!
I hate rap for not only this reason, but also 'cause it's pathetic. Just a random person TALKING and they get paid millions for it! It shows a complete lack of talent.
As far as your point goes, I'm with ya. Ever listened to 50 Cent? Akon? Chammilionare? If you listen carefully or google the lyrics, the songs have a disgusting meaning that is pointless.
And yes, Old School rap is much better. You know why? It HAS MEANING!
no, i don't think today's rap music is the sole reason for the way people are acting these days. teens have always gotten pregnant, used drugs and alcohol, and broken their parents rules no matter what music they listen to or what generation they are from. not everyone listens to rap music. my hubby is 23 years old and listens to rap music. he is one of the most responsible i have ever met for that age. especially when he was married with a child by 22.
I don't listen to rap but I agree to a certain extent. My 14 year old sister, Elyse goes around singing, "HE'S GONNA DO HER TONIGHT, BLAH BLAH" and I personally can't even hear the words. My sister Elyse wears the saggy pants and all and I think that her boyfriend is a gangsta. She also goes around with the hats to the side and giant gold chains, the 'pimp' cup. It's ridiculous. I mean and then there's that song S.E.X. Elyse was listening to that song while playing WITH MY 5 YEAR OLD SON. I mean people, for the sake of the kids make it so there is a legal age to listen to rap. And I'm not saying that just because I'm a mom and white as some of you may think. I mean some songs I allow, white and nerdy, Ms. New Booty, but others I do not allow. I mean like these songs are suggestive to those motions, but the kids went and got THEMSELVES pregnant. The song didn't come pull off their pants.
it incites people into sex, drinking, and self satisfaction. it has affected not that teenage pregnancies have rap to blame
yea and it sucks sooo much
No, it doesn't affect us. We act that way not because of rap, but because we think it's cool. No one cares if one person doesn't approve of it. Rap is a style, rap is music, rap is art. So is R&B. If you can't accept that, or even see that, then you're just blind.
And if you blame rap for teenage pregnancies, drugs, etc., then you're no different than the lazy parents who let their kids do whatever they want. When I hear a rap song, I don't think, "hmm, now that I've heard that, I think I might go smoke, or have sex!" No one thinks that.
"Old school" songs talked about the same things, too. I don't have a list in my head, but I have definitely heard a lot of songs that are worse than any rap I've ever heard.
I hate rap. Some hip/hop is okay, but all music can definitely affect anyone who is weak-minded or impressionable. It should be used for entertainment purposes only and not as a guiding light in your life.

I do agree that today's rap is so raw and disrespectful that it definitely can affect the minds of young people. The videos are all X-rated. It all started with Two Live Crew, IMO.

What happened to the days of Afrika Bambada, Kraftwerk, Egyptian Lover, and the Grand Master Flash groups? Those were the days.
yes rap has changed the world so badly every one wants to be like

a) tupac
b) 50 cent
c)enemin

man the world has changed
i like rap, i think im a better person since i got in to rap cuz im more open now, im curently working on a cd comin out in a couple of months!!
well some of it, but i love R&B. Beyonce is great! Akon is good, but i think the others are retarded. i like so much more that just one genre does not affect me. i like pretty much everything except country, blues, and mexican. i can't stand those ones! but i listen to so much pop, emo, alternative, punk, and everything else that it really doesn't affect me. i think that because i love so many other things that one does not change the way i act
Um..NO! JUST BECAUSE WE LISTEN TO MUSIC DOSENT AFFECT HOW WE ACT! Listen to the rap song 'what would you do' its about how bad teen pregnancy is getting and how there is somany streetwalkers who work for a couple bucks just so they could feed there kids! Rap songs show the negatives of our world too!
look at the music videos. its a HALF a step up from porn. but teenage pregnecacies and stuff still happen, kinda of like when somebody asked that if women wore more modest clothing would they get raped less. and the pant thing, it really annoys me. that is why the world created belts, and they should go buy one. and then people are nagging on emo ( scene ), goth, prep, ect, but at least we pull our pants up!

and the music sucks

no just the poeple that listen to it take the exemples, its their choice to take the exemple of what a rapper does or not take it and stay the way you are
I'm annoyed with rap right now. Nowadays, they rap about ANYTHING. I never liked Money in the Bank or Snap your Fingers. I'm not saying that I hate rap. I'm just saying that I hate what's playing right now. I still listen to old school rap though.

I like irreplaceable though.

It only affects you if you let it affect you. I don't think rap is completely responsible for how people act.
hi zach
well first off all i think you're kind of wrong
i understand when you say rap is sending some wrong messages
but some rap songs are actually sending out good messages these days...like
RUNAWAY LOVE by ludacris & mary j. blige
PAIN IN MY LIFE by saigon
STOLE by kelly rowland
CAN I LIVE by nick cannon
and etc...
some rap artist are actually rapping about meaningful things in today's society

-----> candy-diva <-----
you forgot one of the most influential rappers, 2Pac. He talked about all those topic...and he criticized it. he pushed for equality among all people and i consider him as one of the greatest activists among Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. Just listen to one of his songs, Changes

rap today may be bad, but you forget the good guys in the game
i can't listen to that kind of music unless my parents don't find out like at a friends house. i don't know how music would influence how someone behaves.
rap can b hood. there r some amzing artists 2day. i no theres a problem w/ pimps and chavs (dw. uk word) but we still have to remember the good things about rap.
Don't just go after rap. All of pop culture has affected people. You will just have to deal with it. Yes rap does affect people. If people want to wear their pants like that then so be it, if you don't like it then don't look. People should have the right to wear their clothes as they please. That is a part of being free and expressing yourself. I don't listen to rap as much as I use to, more rock for me but yea, tat is what makes us us. Besides there were plenty of people having sex and doing drugs back in your days and just as much drinking and rule breaking so get over yourself. I've listen to stuff that you would consider bad but I'm not having sex or doing drugs and alcohol or law-breaking.
I agree and disagree at the same time I listen to rap and R&B cause not all rap and R&B is bad some is but not all for instance 50 cent I don't like him cause in his music all he does is talk about all that stuff you were talking about but some is okay like Lloyd and Usher is bad also some other rappers and singers aren't bad so 50% of rap and 50% 50% of R&B is bad.
