The parents probably want to send their son to a private school because they don't like the level of eduation that's in the public school system right now. It's a documented fact that people who go to private school excel more often and have a tendency to get better jobs.
Your friend needs to come up with a convincing argument as to why he doesn't want to go to private school. Does it involve more travel for him? Will he have trouble making friends there? Will it be more expensive? Things like that.
Sticky situation...maybe make a deal with them...
he should do as his parents say because they know what is best for him at this stage of life.
Private schools suck ... atleast in the UK they do. Bullying is really bad and they cheat at everything. He needs to sit and talk to them tell them that state schools can be better. Both my big bros went to private and me n my sis now go to state and the state is much better than the private although we got into private we chose state. Sitting down and talking should help.

Maybe they want to send him to a private school because of what all goes on in publis schools. I went to private schools my 11th and 12th and it wasn't that bad (except the uniform). But if your friend is dead set against it I don't recommend failing the SATs because that could be bad for him in the long run. I suggest try having him tell them he needs to have a serious talk with them and have them sit down like at the kitchen table so they can hear him and not be distracted. When he's talking to them, tell him to remain calm, loosing his cool will only make matters worse. If they still won't listen maybe there's a third party, perhaps a relative or friend of the family that he can go talk to that might talk to them on his behalf.
He should go to the school his parents tell him to go to, He is 14 not a grown man and does not know everything. Failing a test on purpose is appalling. Private Schools offer a better education so tell your friend to suck it up and act like the grown up he thinks he already is

He should take the tests, go to the best school he can get into and suck it up. We all do things we don't want to do, and a lot of the time they end up being the best things for us. Does he have any good reasons for not wanting to go? Oh and he would be doing himself a terribly injustice if he failed tests on purpose. Trying to convince people that he's not smart enough to pass a test isn't a cool thing to do (even though at 14 it seems like it is).
He should listen to his parents and try to make the best of it. For all he knows the private school could be great! I know two people who didn't want to go and were happy in the end that they did.
At age 14,nothing but listen to his parents.
