Convincing parents?

I need help. I'm homeschooled. I have been homeschooled for a long time. Next year, I'll be in 9th grade. I really want to go to public school, but my parents want to homeschool me. What are the good points of public school and the bad points of homeschool? And don't say socialization, because I have tons of homeschooled friends.

Answer:
You really do need to be put into public school, especially in high school. Tell your parents
-That you need to get ready for the real world, and cannot do it in a closed environment.
-That colleges actually look at the high school you went to and like public high schools more than home schools (there are some private school that are home schools, they are exceptions...)
-You heard from friends that the food in the cafeteria is better (ok, this one is a lie, but who wants to say that they're tired of their parent's cooking, or whatever?)
-Say that you like a different environment, and a different approach to the teaching.
I was homeschooled from after middle school through high school. I can say that missing things like prom and school activites made me sad for a long time. If you are a strong person who will not be swayed by the peer pressure that will come your way you should be given a chance at least.
socialization is a big part of it. you can have a lot of home schooled friends, be the difference between public education and home school is almost like a different world. you will experience different things at public school. things that you will need to know to be able to get along in the "real" world.
There it sex, love, and pda in public HS.
lol!
You also learn things besides book smarts which everyone needs in life.
well i believe the good piont of high school are:
*u get to learn more about life and mistakes
*u get to see a new enviorment
*CUTE BOYS..lol j/p
What are your reasons for wanting to go to public school? Im curious. My husband and I dont know if we want to homeschool our kids and your input would be greatly appreciated!

One argument for you would be to prepare you for college. You cant get a college degree being homeschooled. And going from a homeschool environment to a college environment would be a bigger shock if you didnt have that high school experience first.

High school is more like the real world and that is very important for you to experience BEFORE you get out into it.
Hi! You are in the EXACT same boat i was in last year! This is so weird...anywyz,I was homeschooled my entire life too,up until this year.I'm going to high school now as a 9th grader.Well, from experience I would just show how responsible and mature you can be to some of the stupid stuff in this world. If they do recognize this and they still say no,then there's only one thing you can do and I know how stupid this sounds but..trust them! Your Parents know you better than anyone in your life, they know when you're ready to be put into the world like that. I'll tell you right now,I HATED homeschooling, but now that i'm in a public school,I most DEFFINETLY see the pros in homeschooling.I kind of miss it in a way, but.public school is great! Also talk with your parents about the pros of going to school

*Scholarships
*More Friends(I know from experience = ] )
*Better Schooling in a sense
*Teaches you about peoples personalitys and such

Well,I hope this helps and everything goes well!!!
im not sure about the pros and cons of each but i do have a suggestion, you are still a young adult or child and your parents can decide wether you get what you want or not, so if they did choose to keep home schooling you i would strongly suggest joining some sort of social group, i don't know what your into and things but what about a badminton club or football club?? u get the picture, this way you can interact with kids your age, boys and girls, because i feel this is very important esp at your age.
The main selling point I think would be that going to public school will teach you the socialization skills (note socialization skills is not the exact same as social skills) that will be vital to success in your career as well as college. Unless you plan to get an online degree and then a career from home as an e-marketer, you will need these socialization skills. Without them, co-workers and supervisors will perceive you as naive and try to take advantage of you or bully you.

Now depending upon where you live, the public schools may not be so hot, and potentially you are getting higher quality (and definitely more personalized) education than you'd get at school, but there is more to life than book learning and the lack of socialization skills might be a big handicap later on.
Appreciate what you're parents are doing for you. My boss home schools all of his kids and by the time they reach 16 they are smart enough to go right into college - what a gift! This just shows you how far behind, academically, the public schools are.
Public schools just have too much distraction and this causes kids to drop out and public schools are not as challanging as the home schooled environments.
I saw a special, on TV, years ago about a family who home schooled every one of their 6 kids. By the time each kid reached 16 they were in college, some graduated college by 18 and were teaching college classes by 18 and 20.
Parents who can provide this level of education for their children are one-of-a-kind and should be praised for doing such a spectucular job. You are very fortunate for having such great parents!
You may say it's not the socialization part. But ultimately IT IS.
You want to get out there and meet new people, know what it's like to sit in a class room with 25 other kids, go to a Prom, have your own locker etc...
Just because you have tons of homeschooled friends doesnt mean you don't want to go to school and meet other kids..
I think your parents are worried about the socialization part of it... that's why they homeschooled you in the first place.. Schools arent what they used to be, and your parents know it. Public schools can be a hard place to go. Kids can be very cruel. Let alone public schools nowadays have to have security on hands at all times. what does that tell you? I can see why your parents don't want you to go to public school. But I think we need to convince them to let you go just for the experience. I think you should give them teh list of pros you wrote down when you asked your question. Tell them you know they are worried about a public school, however you are getting older and need to start experiencing all the things that most kids do. You won't get to go to Prom if you're sitting at home with Mom.
Sounds like they don't want you to grow up... It's hard on parents to see that their lil' babies are growing up and wanting to make their own decisions..
Good luck
I had the SAME THING HAPPEN!
I first convinced my Mom to convince my dad.
Tell them that you need to be prepared for college. That way when you go,reality won't kick your ***.
I wrote out all of the pros. Then I wrote out all of the cons and how I planned to deal with them. That helped out alot.
well I have been homeschooled all my life. and like you I have tons of freinds. here is what i found out about public school when trying to talk my parents into letting me go, 1) I was smarter than most of the people 2 grades above me. 2) the crime rate is going up and up every year in public school. 3) in public school they only teach booksmarts, not life smarts. (i really have not learned any thing besides what the book say.) I used to hate it, but now i see that i was really lucky to be homeschooled. do you have a local community college? if so at age 16 you can take some classes there and ern college cridit 2 years early, while still being homeschooled. it is called dual enrolment. that is what i am doing now. it gets you out of the house. and is MUCH better than public school.
one of the pros of going to public school is you gain experience.

speak to your parents about this and ask them to list you the reasons they want to homeschool you, then you can reply to what they have to say, they might even convince you to stay at home.
High school is wonderful. To me, i would NEVER want to be homeschooled. Public school is more fun, because you can interact with other kids. Like, take theathre arts and be in school plays. You learn more about REAL life at public school, rather than homeschool, because you have to deal with things that you dont homeschooling. You see your friends everyday. Everyone says that the 4 years of highschool are soposed to be your best. And you have Football games. Homecoming. Junior and Senior Prom. Winter Formal. and other dances.
Hope this helps.
