What was a tall tale your parents told you just to keep you from finding things out?

I was told for 2 years that my mom was away on a trip--only to find out after that time that she had actually died.
they told me to do what they'd say, or i'd dissapoint God. They had several bible verses for it.

hmmm. my parents were the type that only beleive in sex after marriage... so i found out at school in sex ed... i wish i was told when i was young coz i think i was the only one in my class that had no idea

My parents avoided any discussions. I was cheated by the sheltered life they had me live. Until the age of 14 when I found out on my own. Then I found out again and again. I had to make up for their short commings
hmmmm.... my friend told me when i was five and then i asked my mum when they reported people being caught in public toilets on the news but she ignored me. but my friend was a bit crazed over it so i found out a lot by the time i was 10 and then i heard my mum and dad doing it,
and this year we were doing reproduction in science so she FINALLY decided to tell me.
I was told about the stork also. Also if i bumped my head or hurt myself (minor) i was told that it was God that made me do that and that i must have done someting to make him punish me.
