Why does everyone assume on the Aubrey Crawford question that that is a girl name only?

I said I'd never ask a question on this site, so be nice!! I am asking this because I got 4 thumbs down on my answer. Technically, Aubrey is under the boy names and means ruler of the elves! Even though it is pretty also for a girl!!! I hated the meaning of the name but named my son Aubrey Jacob Harris after my grandfather, whom I adored! His name was William Aubrey! Sorry I wrote a book, but I was just wondering why everyone assumes that is a girl name! I cannot even find it in the girl section of my baby book of names! I will admitt, I think she probably is having a girl but it was not specified so..

Answer:
THERE ARE SO MANY EITHER OR NAMES OUT THERE NOW, ANYTHING OR NAME IS POSSIBLE FOR EITHER SEX AND MOST OF US DON'T KNOW UNLESS THEY TELL US IF IT'S A BOY OR A GIRL. SORRY ABOUT YOUR THUMBS DOWN. WASN'T ME. I ALSO NAMED MY FIRST AN EITHER OR NAME, JUST TRIED TO HAVE A GOOD GIRLS NAME FOR THE MIDDLE. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
I have never met a boy names Aubrey so that is why I would assume it is a girls name.
I wouldn't assume it's a girl's name. it could be either. the trend of the last few years though is toward naming a girl that.
I don't know. I find that hard to believe too. I prefer Aubrey as a male name. I don't particularly like it as a girl's name.
I looked it up on a baby names website and it's listed as a female name.
Aubrey sounds very girlish
I have never even heard of anyone naming there baby Aubrey but anything's possible
but it is a very pretty little girl name
Well its like the name Avery, I think it is a better boys name than a girls name.
I have never heard of a boy named Aubrey but I have heard of a girl named Aubrey and its really pretty also
The reason Aubrey is automatically thought of as a girls name is because once a name noticably become a unisex name, it's not long until it is strictly feminine. Parents tend to want to give their sons masculine names. Once the name truly has enough girls following it, it becomes too feminine for a boy. Some historical examples are Ashley, Sydney, Kimberly, and Madison.
It's just because my friend Aubs would hate to hear that she could fall in love with a guy only to find that his name was Aubrey too.

I would never thumbs down anyone for that, however. It your answer was a book, I would maybe thumbs down because I'd assume that it was pointless mishmash that could have been done in less than the number of words.
Well, the only time I've heard Aubrey used for a male was a guy who one of my former friends was formerly married to. He was from like the Caman Islands or something like that. They had a couple of really pretty daughters together.
