Boy names... are these really that bad?
we don't agree on any girl names but we both like the same boy names
we like
Asher and Oscar
we told my parents and they laughed, they said those are dumb names and they feel sorry for our future boys.

They're not that bad. They are not my favorites, but I don't see anything wrong with them. I've learned that once you find a name you like, don't tell anyone what you are naming the child until he is born. Otherwise everyone will tell you it's terrible and try to make you change your mind.

Asher's not bad, but Oscar would definitely lead to some teasing.
Oscar is cool, Asher sounds like a girl or a sissy.

NO! i hate that everyone has the SAME name, its annoying, bring some creativity to the world and name your boys what you want. your parents are not having them you are, and hey, they already got to chose the names for their kids, dont you think you have the same right !!
Asher is nice. Oscar will probably makes kids think of Oscar the Grouch on Sesame Street.
Regardless, they are your children and you can name them what you want. People always have an opinion on baby names.
I like Asher but Oscar just makes the kindergarten crew think of Oscar the grouch.

Asher's not bad at all. But for Oscar, I imagine a kid with one of those rainbow helecopter hats that gets laughed at and teased. I would rethink the name Oscar. On the other hand, again, I think Asher is a good name.

i think both names are fine. I must admit that the Oscar always made me think of hotdogs, too. but a friend of mine's little sister had a boy and named him Oscar and he's just precious and the name fits!!
I think if you like the names go for them - however be prepared to console your children when they are teased. I don't mean to be rude or mean and frankly as an adult I see nothing wrong with the names you have chosen, but other kids can be cruel and they will tease a child named Asher ("asser", for example) and Oscar (the grouch, for example). these might be better middle names... unless you absolutely love them.
Yeah, they're pretty bad. Oscar? Come on...that's not a good name for a kid growing up in the 21st century. Asher is different, but maybe a little too different.
Oscar reminds me of Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street or an old man's name, and not a cute old man...a creepy dirty old man. Asher is kinda feminine.

NOT ASHER! Take a look... It seems most (if not all) guys here don't like the name. If your Asher is a boy, he probably won't like it either, and may get teased. It sounds too feminine and trendy.
Oscar isn't too bad, but it's not a very strong name. Personally, I have bad associations with it, and then there's Oscar the Grouch, and Oscar Meyer Weiners. My son's name is Jackson Jory Matteo (don't like Jory -- but it is wife's ancestors). Also like Albert, Henry, and Samuel.
Asher sounds like something someone is doing to a girl in her but get it AS-HER. Oscar is something you name a dog or cat not a human..lol Oscar the grouch lives in a garbage can! You may like them but take it from me with a weird name the make fun of doesn't go away when you get out of school...for the rest of their lives..hahahahaha not funny man!
I like Oscar but you should never share the name or names you are thinking of with anyone until the baby is born. We always keep that secret and this is the reason why.
Well, unless Oscar has some kind of family history, I personally wouldn't name my son that. But if it's a name that you really like, then go for it. I think Asher is a really nice name for a boy. If you have a girl you could name her Azure. It kinda matches the one you already have picked out for the boy. I wish you the best. If my youngest had been a girl, I had the name Autumn Cheyenne picked out. I told this to my mother-in-law and all she had to say was "well, I am glad he turned out to be a boy then" Family sometimes don't think about what they say before it comes out of their mouths. Don't take it personally when they don't like a name you have picked out. Name your child whatever you want to. They will get used to it after a while (and they will get over it too) LOL

They are both lovely names, I guess I'm partial as we have an Oscar in our family. Oscar is Gaelic and means Deer Lover, Asher is Hebrew and means Blessed, Happy.

I like Asher, I think of Oscar the grouch when I see Oscar but it's not bad, if you are looking for girls names my name is spelled Megan but it is pronounced Megan with a long e. I am 27 and it has taken some time to get everyone at work to call me by the correct name. I am glad my parents chose an uncommon name!
I think if you are pregnant with male dogs then they are a great name! but for humans definitely not!
