Girls names on boys - why?

I don't know. Tons of people I know are obsessed with that, but there are so many beautiful boys names! And there's some element of masculinity lost when you name a boy Fifi!! It's definitely not a self-esteem booster.

Alot of names that we know associate as being a females name, such as Ashley, were used as names for men in earlier centuries

There's a lot of names that can go for either sex, all it takes is for people to start naming thier baby the "other genders" name and next thing you know it can be for either one.
Someone has to start the trend I guess.
I gave my son a very uncommon, but cool, boy name and while checking it on a baby name website I noticed that almost all of the mothers there had given the name to girls but changed the spelling. It is definitely a boy name and I feel sorry for those girls who now have a boy name. I think people should be able to name their kids whatever they want. That's your right as a parent, but I don't think parents should embarass their children and make them go through life with an odd name.
Most names started out as 'boy' names, like Leslie and such. Then someone decided to give it to a girl and suddenly everyone considers it a girl name.
I don't know, I think some are ridiculous. Ones like Taylor aren't too bad, but I've heard some older boys with names like Christin, Shannon, and Courtney. Dana is another one that bugs me!

Actually many girls names have been boys names first like Lynn and Adeliade. In some cases children and being named after far grandparents who had this type of names. Sometimes it is a last name.
Otherwise, I think it is meant to give the kid character, set them apart, and give them something to live up to. I know that s certainly the case with many women names men's names.
