Aidan or Aiden?

How should my husband and I spell our first child's name? I started with AidAn because that's what showed up in a book of baby names and meanings. I've seen it spelled both ways, though. My husband's mother just recently brought up the fact that if we were to spell it AidEn, it would have all of the letters in her name (Diane). We just like the name and the spelling isn't that big of a deal. I guess my question is which way is more common, AidAn with an A or AidEn with an E?

Answer:
Spell it with an 'e' (quite common) and tell the kid when he's about 15 that he was named after grandma! Should be an interesting family moment!
i prefer aidEn...
I think Aiden is cute and is spelled more like I pronouce it. What a cute way to honor grandma, too.
aiden is more common but i think it's nicer too.
Probably AidAn, with an A. But seems like it might be nice to spell it with an E since it would have special significance.
My first choice would be Aiden with an 'e'.
I like that it is an anagram of Diane.
I looked at the other spelling though, and it would be suitable if there was a 'dan' in the family.
aiden is a lovely name and i like the way its spelt the way Ive just spelt it! also you don't want your child to grow up with people not knowing how to spell his name, its really annoying when you don't know how someone spells their name because they spell it different (if that sounds right?) the fact it has your husbands mothers name too is really nice and thoughtful!
Choose the one you are most comfy with and if it pleases the mom-in-law smart move. Anything goes to keep the harmony.
is it a boy or a girl? if it's a girl then the name should be Aidan. this is a turkish name and I think it means moon. Aiden sounds a lot more like Aden, which is a boy's name. so make ur choice based on the fact if it is a male or a female
I like Aiden. It actually sounds cute. With an 'e' it is. Good luck.
E
I personally prefer adiEn it just looks better and is better to read but it is more common than adiAn
GoOd LuCk xXx
Aidan
My son's name will be Aiden Jacob. I am spelling it Aiden because of my mother. I lost her in 2004 and thought if it was a girl I would have Diane as the name. Well it turns out to be another boy so we chose Aiden since the letters are the same as in Diane. I like it spelled both ways, but En makes it sentimental to me. Congrats and good luck!!
This won't be a popular answer, I'm sure, but I know 3 people, personally, who have named their boys Aidan in the past year. It is a VERY popular name right now. Have you considered it as a middle name, instead? Otherwise think of the poor kindergarten teacher in a few years. Oh, and don't do "Jayden," "Braden," or "Caden" -- those make my stomach lurch.
Aiden.
E.
I like the like the name Aiden! I would say it is most comonly spelled with an e. Thats the way i would prefer it 2!
Aiden's better..esp. the Diane part! luv n luk...
Aidan

or how about Aidyn?
Aiden looks better
it's retarded to name your kids after TV characters, and even more retarded to tie in your grandmother as a cover up to name your kid after TV characters.
If I were to spell your name of choice I would spell it Aiden as that is the way I am most familiar. Either way it is one of those names that will probably get mis-spelled a lot so I say go with Aiden as a "tribute" to your MIL.
Well I am also on first a little girl. but if we had a boy we were going to name him Aiden Noah. But we have now decided on Allyson Rileigh<-- we like it spelt a little not normal.
I prefer Aiden this spelling.
I would go with A but if you want to honor MIL go with E. It's not that big of a difference.*
Why not go with something a little different like Alden (all-den)

Alden Issac is cute

or Edan/ Eden/Edin
aiden
I have def. seen it spelled with an E more times than with an A. I used to work in a daycare, and seen the same name spelled at least a half a dozen ways.

Aidan
Aiden
Aidyn
Ayden
Adin
Aedin

and I'm sure there are more out there...but personally my fav. is either Aiden or Aidyn.

Hope this helps and congrats.
all the boys in his class will have the same name

How about Adam or Jonah?
i like AidEn, + your mom-in-law thought of it, and its pretty neat.
there's differetn meaning to each spelling. the more common way of spellign it is Aidan, which for a littel boy means littel fire, for a girl it has something to do with fairies. Aiden (also Aideen) simply means fiery. Aidan is more popular, but there's no real reason why. also it's pronounce eye-dan, not aye-dan. it's irish!
