When you were naming your kids?

was whether or not they were going to get picked on your first thought?

Answer:
no not at all...in fact...I was hoping they would not get picked. I like unique and unusual names.and there is only one other girl with my daughter's name in her school...and with my oldest son...he is the only one with his name!
No
I married a man with a bad last name
Our biggest concern was getting a name that went with our last name.
His last name kids do make fun of
When we were thinking of names for our daughter, we thought of the names first then tried and think of ways that her name could be made fun of. If there was anyway that she could get picked on for her name, we scratched that name off the list. We ended up naming our daughter Mikayla Nicole. We love the name.
One of the thoughts,we picked nice simple names that they could live with,my first name is horrible and I got picked on all the time.
I named my sons after the men who introduced my husbands to me. John and Daniel. No one made fun of their names, but if I had to do it again, I would have named J after my dad, since he is so much like him.
Dan was called "lion bait"as a child.
John is Jack-or Sprat
If I'd had a daughter I would have named the first one Geneva and the 2nd would have been Dianna or Jess.
i went for names that couldn't be shortened but my son who is now 14 they call him by his last name so i cant win lol
I don't think my parents was thinking at all when they named me. They got my name from a soap called Dy-nasty can you tell I hate that soap) lol my name is Fallen f-al-lynn funny, huh? :)
Lots of thought and palnning went into choosing our kids names-- but great minds think alike?? Our Matt and Jake which were rare are not common!

No I just picked names that I liked and some of my families names! Travys Dean (Dean is my dads name); Austin Benjamin (Benjamin is my brother in laws name); Cynthia Marie ( Marie is my sisters middle name); Brian Lee Daniel (Lee Daniel is my husbands middle name); Zowie Michelle and Maygen Cheyenne (they weren't named after anyone)
When I have kids, I will probably name the first boy my last name and than let him have his last name after that it's my last name-his last name.

I dont know for a girl..
i went to school with 2 girls who's monograms were EEK and NAD. their parents weren't thinking. those LL Bean backpacks were very popular and you weren't cool unless it was monogrammed.
well, I don't have kids, but when i see the names in here that *some people want to give their kids my first thought is holy crap that kid won't stand a chance! when you can easily think of mean nicknames or just see the little child growin up disturbed because of it, I think its time to move on. I mean seriously, if 5 seconds after you say the name someone says something mean about it and you hear the same thing a lot, its whats gonna happen most of the time and why set your kid up for that!? It will definetly be a top priority of mine!
No. I thought of them as adults and whether they would be happy with the name I gave them.

Then I looked at initals to make sure they didn't spell something horrible.
umm, well i dont have kids but i know how i'm going to name my kids. the first thing i'm going to think of is can my child get made fun of for that name. i would never name my kid malgeleda just because i know people will find that unusual. then , i would see how well the name sounds with the last name then narrow it down from there.
yeah
Yes, that was part of the criteria for picking names. I also made sure that their initials didn't spell something like BAG, CAT, DOG, etc.

I went for names that weren't overly popular, but also names that wouldn't have them made fun of and I think that is part of a parent's job to keep their children protected.
no was just wanted something me and my husband both like and something that sounded "pretty"
What is the question? You sound so mixed up.
Kids can make fun of any name given the motivation- most have something that rhymes, or they'll pick on their surname, or just give them a nickname with the same initial, or pick on them for some other reason, or no reason at all!

However, that doesnt mean you should make it easy for them! Do bear it in mind but dont let it rule all your judgements. If you really like a name and the tease isnt thaaaat bad, go for it and give your kid a nickname / short name / middle name for school, or teach them to be self confident, or how to deflect name calling like do it back, shrug it off, give a good comeback (A schoolmate was called Luke the Puke, and he retorted that he was also a Duke).

I was lucky, the only word they could get to rhyme with Lydia was Enclyclo-pidia, which the thick kids couldnt say, and which wasnt that bad anyway! Fortunately they dont teach about chlyamidia in primary school
I didn't think of that because I named my oldeszt Kaylyn which is a namesake of my mom who has passed and my stepmom's middle names. And my second daughter had no name until I stole my sisters name for a girl and then added my sisters middle name into her name for originality! My youngest is MarissaLynn. I don't see how those could get picked on, but now a days kids pick on kids over anything!
