My husband and I are considering a second child however I am on "the pill." How do I get off of it?

I take Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo and have since January of 2005, after our first child. I have heard that it can take up to 3 months after stopping to conceive. Do I stop my birth control completely or gradually? Thanks so much!

Answer:
Finish the pack that you are on and then stop taking it. It may take you awhile to conceive but you do not have to wait to start trying. Good luck!!
stop it completely
you stop at the end of the pack. just finish your current pack and dont take them any longer. it may take much longer than 3 months to conceive, BTW. It can take up to 1 year for a normal couple to conceive, this has nothing to do with the pill
Finish your pack and then stop completely. I do agree waiting 3 - 6 months before trying to conceive so your body can get back to normal.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!
Just finish the pack! When you finish it and start you menses just don't take the pill anymore! That's how it works...hope it helps...
Stop taking it and dont think about getting pregnant.I never thought about starting to have kid when i did but now i have three and one on the way. When you dont think about it it will happen so have as much sex as possible.ENJOY!!!!
You want to stop it at the end of the current cycle. I've heard that you want to wait 3-4 months after stopping to try to concieve, so your hormones can re-normalize, reducing the risk of any complications or problems with the child.

As always, I recommend checking with your OB/GYN - don't take my word (or anyone elses) at face value!
Just stop taking it.

Also, it can take up to twelve months to conceive even if you aren't on the pill. It can take longer once you get off the pill depending whether you ovulate right away or not.

Also the hormones get out of your system within 48 hours, and you can take the pill during pregnancy and there will be no side effects for the baby, so you do not need to wait. It is easier for dating the pregnancy if you wait to see if your schedule is regular, but it isn't necessary.
finish ur pack then stop be sure to tell ur doctor if he/she has any info that u need to no thats why u insure them that u are going to be off the pill
=]
Yeah you can stop it after your regular period-very next day.and stop taking seven to ten days before your period is due!Which ever suits you!
You are wise ask random strangers this important question.

God knows what nonsense you doctor will try to tell you!
trtack your period first off then finish your pack and stop then start having sex on those special days you ovulate and it should be fairly easy but dont be dis couraged if it doesnt happen immediatly you could take a while
Stop taking the pill when you are done with this pack. Then stay off for 3 months and "be careful" when having sex. during this time, you can keep track of your period (like they taught you to do when you were a teenager). This will help you determine when you are ovulating and when you are the most fertile. It is no guarentee, but I feel it helps. That way "baby-making" does not take the place of "love-making". Just hit it during the most fertile days to "try"....then do whatever you want and enjoy it the rest of the time....good luck with baby #2!
You just stop taking it after the last pill in your pack. My doctor told me I could start trying right away after I stopped taking it, but I have read some places that you should wait a month or 2. Good luck!
After researching Ortho-Tri Cyclen in the online PDR (Prescription drugs), I find that there are too many variables to comfortably answer your question. I'm sorry! My advice to you would be to please discuss this with your Gynocologist.
I have always just stoped taking it
I stopped the pill without "finishing" the pack.got pregnant 2 weeks later. Had a very healthy 8lb 15oz baby with no complications at all. My doctor is the one that told me to just stop with the pill. I was taking ortho tri cyclen also(not lo though).
I don't know if I was lucky or what. All I know is that is what happened. I stopped taking the pill September 1, got pregnant September 15 had a baby June 18.
Good Luck
