What is behind a name ?
Answer:
I pick names that have special meaning to me and aren't ridiculously common.
If I can't think of one that is special to me, I'd pick a person who is and try variants of their name.
Having a connection to something is a big part of it for me.
I don't think there is one. I guess what ever feels right. I have a weird name and it isn't even spelled right but I still love it. OH! and make sure it matches w/ the middle name there is nothing worst then have a 1st and middle name that don't go together like Victor Edward.
Two parents fighting over what it will be!!
Sorry. When I named my girls, I wanted something Southern-sounding. (I didn't name them Bertha or anything like that.) I also wanted family names. All of my girls are named after relatives. I gave my kids names that nobody I knew had, besides the relatives I named them after.
I've always felt that if you're not naming a child after one of the parents (i.e., James Michael, Jr., son of James Michael), then the first name should belong to the child alone - not named after anyone. The middle name should be used to name a child after someone.
What my hubby and I did was each made up a list of 10-15 names we liked for each gender, then traded lists and eliminated the ones we didn't like off the other person's list. Then we went through the remaining names and came up with several pairings we liked. When my son was born, we decided which pairing we wanted (had to see him before we named him).
My hubby and I are planning to chose names that:
1) have a special meaning to us both
2) are very nice sounding
3) aren't too common - yet aren't so far fetched that people have no clue what they are
Just pick a name that sounds right to you. I named my youngest Calliope. Its different, to say the least. BUT, everyone comments on how beautiful it is. And it fits her...I can't even imagine her being named anything else.
I liked the name Molly for one of my other kids...hubby didn't because he doesn't like Molly Ringwald..I told him he would love the name Molly if one of his kids was named Molly...which is true..but that name didn't happen anyway.
