Is a woman who has had an abortion more likely to miscarry later.?

My daughter was told by her doctor that it makes no difference but this is not my experience and I know of several women who have had miscarriages in later years following an abortion. Is there anyone who has had an abortion and later carried successfully full term? Also Where can we read related statistics?

Answer:
I know someone who has had several (more than 5) abortions... she was just pregnant, but lost the babies (apparently it was twins).

If you're talking about one or two abortions, I'm sure you would be able to carry to term... but many abortions would make it much harder.
Late term abortions where the cervix if dilated and/or forced open are more likely to lead to weakening of the cervix, also the fetus is larger and the cervix can be lacerated or injured with instruments if the fetus needs to be removed from the uterus.

There are thousands of women who have had an early abortion and later carried successfully full term. My friends and I are a few of them - and I meet more of them every day since I'm an OB nurse. I don't know anyone who has had the experiences you mention.

One or two first trimester suction abortions performed by a competent MD are extremely unlikely to have any complications or any effect on future fertility whatsoever.
You're going to get all kinds of skewed answers here concerning abortion. Even if you try to find a legitimate source online for statistics concerning fertility after abortions, you'll have a hard time sorting through the propaganda.
If your daughter's doctor says her fertility is fine, then trust the doctor. Abortion-related infertility is more likely in cases where a woman is repeatedly getting a late-term abortion. Early abortions are no more invasive than a D&C, which many women (including me) have been unfortunate to need after a miscarriage. I don't know what the details were on the abortion your daughter got, but I would guess that she will NOT be at a disadvantage when she chooses to have children later in life.
Yes, I know someone who had an abortion, and then years later successfully carried 3 babies to term. She did have one early miscarriage (after the first 2 kids were born) but I really don't think it had anything to do with the previous abortion.
Your daughters Dr. is correct. Having an abortion makes no difference in an ability to carry a baby later on. Even multiple abortions.

I have known 2 women who had multiple abortions and later had children with no complications.
That is not always the case i had one and now im having a baby in a week
It is tough to get stats on this topic..but it makes no sense that AN abortion could lead to fertility problems..try Planned Parenthood or speak to her doctor again.
I have never had an abortion, but I know people who have had one also and they are having trouble concieving and also carrying the child. I think its Karma.
No (from experience), This is just an old wives tale.
