When you first get on birth control how long does it take so that it begins to work ?

just started using birth control pills and its been a week and i have relationships what are the chances of being pregnant,

Answer:
Depends on each individual,
generally about 6 weeks.
There is no 100% sure
form of birth control.
I think it takes two to three full months before it really works.
It use to be a month back when I used them. Just out of curiousity, where are you getting the pills from? It just seems that your doctor would have told you if you got them from him. If you are getting them from somewhere else, without a doctor's prescription, you might just as well not be using them. Also, you may not like it but I'm going to say it anyway. If you didn't get them from a doctor, there is a reason why... Just remember sex can cause alot more problems than pregnancy.
The chances are good if you have unprotected sex. Takes a few months for the pill to work effectively.
Well if you've had unprotected sex the chances are pretty damned good...didn't you READ any of the information that came with your birth control? Didn't you LISTEN to the doctor when he/she prescribed the pills? It takes 2 to 6 weeks, the longer you go with out having sex the better the protection...BTW since you obviously weren't listening and didn't bother to read...birth control pills are NOT 100% effective and they do nothing to protect you from STDS HIV or HPV and if you THINK he doesn't have HIV or HPV you could be wrong since it can take 10 years for them to present but the "carrier" is still contagious...
Should should definately be talking to your doctor about the effectiveness of the pill. It does take a couple of months to start working. You should be careful anyway as there are different types of pill and your doctor can only prescribe what he thinks will work. The pill you were prescribed may not suit your body and may need to be changed.

Also if you are given antibiotics while on the pill it loses its effectiveness and your risks of pregnancy and increased. Remember that for future reference as my sister and a friend have both fallen pregnant after antibiotics.
Read the manufacterers insert. If you are taking a combined hormonal contracpetive, it takes 7 or 14 days. It never ever takes longer than that! Doctors sometimes warn longer not because it might not work, but because they want you to get into the habit of taking the pill everyday before risking barrier free sex! So, if you've had sex after being on the pill for 7 days, your chances of being pregnant are very low.

Gosh, I can't believe how ignorant people are!
