'' how long should i breast feed''?
Answer:
breast feed your son until he is 27
she's crazy
4, 5, or 6 years old is a bit too old... Around 2 years old you should wean your baby slowly. With my kids, I figured that's the age you have them give up the bottle, so that's about when you should have them give up the breast.
until he has teeth. I think some women breast feed because of their own insecurities.
I think breastfeeding can go on for the first year or year and a half. After that, it's over. A mother was nursing a 5 year old? Something is seriously wrong with that! Children at that age do not need breast milk! They go to school for heaven's sake! I think that mother has a problem and is doing it for her own gratification, not her child's.
My wife, having breastfed our son, fed him until he didn't want to anymore. ~2-3 yrs.
One is plenty old enough. Too old in my opinion, but that's up to you. 4-5 is just sick. A kindergarden aged child still at the breast? That's actually perverted. The child is likely to remember being breast fed, and that could be a bit traumatic later in life.
when he gets teeth and it becomes uncomfortable for YOU it might be a good time to stop. I've heard that when babies start eating a wide variety of table foods, breast feeding is more for the bonding experience and less about nutrition. Does he still wake up at night to breastfeed? If yes, than it may be time to stop so that he's not looking for comfort. It becomes a habit... Good luck. Ultimately, everyone decides when to quit based on their own preferences, but 4 or 5 years old is excessive.
About Two Years if you can?
As long as you're comfortable, because the baby get important nutrients an anti bodies from the milk. But I would've thought once the child is on solids that would be long enough. this worked fine for my three children because they've grown up to be healthy and fit teenagers. As for years, this has got to be excessive beyond belief! In fact I think quite strange to the point of needing professional help.
i would say 18 months should be the maximum, you wouldn't have a kid on a bottle at 4, 5, or 6 would you, so why would you breastfeed for that long?
OH NO! I am a breastfeeding mother and my son will no longer be breastfed at 10 months. There is no way a child should be still getting breastfed at 4 or 5!
I know it sounds crazy that people breastfeed until their children are 6 yrs old but, it does happen. I think one to one and half is the norm. I am sorry but I cannot see my kindergardener running up to me wanting to breast feed.
