my wife is a teacher and makes enough money for us to both live on, and enjoys her job. if i stay home to raise children, im worried about having to go back to work with a large gap in work history. what do you think?

Just explain that you were at home raising your family. It would also depend on what field of work you are in. I wouldnt worry too much about it though. It's great to hear of stay at home dads.
My husband stayed at home with the kids while I worked. He did this for about a year and a half. In that time he went back to college and got a degree. So now he is working in a brand new field and I get to stay home : )
