Miscarriage Question?

How can you tell the difference between having a miscarriage and having your period? How long do you bleed with a miscarriage? I am high risk for miscarriage when i get pregnant so im wondering how i can tell the difference because i dont want to think its my period and use a tampon when it could possibly be a miscarriage...

Answer:
I have had 2 miscarriages and neither one was anything like a period for me. The first I was 8 weeks, the second I was 16 weeks. My first was like a really heavy period with lots of small blood clots and major cramping. My second I had lots of very very heavy bleeding with blood clots and horrible cramps. The second was almost like going through labor with my 2 kids. So I guess it depends on how far along you are and I'm sure it would be different for every woman. If there is a chance you might be pregnant and having a miscarriage you should see your doctor.
i don't know ask a doctor
I've had two miscarriages (that I am aware of) and both times I had extremely painful cramps--more so than normal. The first one I could hardly get out of bed. That's as much as I know. Perhaps you could use a pad? Anyhow, if you have pain along with bleeding I would call your doctor/nurse and at the least get their advice. Hope this was helpful.
From what I understand, a number of pregnancies end in miscarriage before the woman even knows she is pregnant.

If you are trying to conceive, you can use a early detection test (Clear Blue Easy, EPT) that will tell you if you are pregant days before your 1st missed period.

I miscarried several years ago at 7 weeks. It began with some spotting and then larger clots. (A little graphic, sorry). I went to my OB and after a few ultrasounds discovered I was indeed miscarrying the pregnancy.

You can also spot during a pregnancy and not miscarry. That is what is known as implantation spotting in the early weeks of your pregnancy.

My best advice is if you think you are pregnant, take a pregnancy test to confirm your results. If you are, see your OB/GYN and discuss any special instructions that he/she may have for you. There a number of things that can be done for high risk pregnancies during the early stages to reduce that risk.

Hope this helps.
When you have miscarriage you will pass blood clots and some people might have pain with it. I did have pain when I had a miscarriage. The best thing you can do is go to the doctor.
Many women don't even know when they are miscarrying because it is very much like a period when it happens early on. If you think there is any reason that it could be a miscarriage, use pads.
I had two very early miscarriages (before or on the expected day of period). Both periods were much heavier than usual, but both were three days shorter (only three days instead of my usual six) and went from very heavy to nothing within two hours. In short, they were nothing like my usual six day spotting-heavy-light-spotting periods.

In addition, during my second miscarriage I had some slight complications and after being clean for a day, I started having additional cramping and spotting for another week until a cloth came out on its own.
