Why do you need to tell him ... I mean . it's not as if he has to prepare himself like you do ... it's not like he'll be feeling bloated or waddling like a duck . if you want to fall ... just fall . he's your husband ... he'll love another child I'm sure :)

Just ask him. My hubby wanted another right away. needless to say I have a 4 and a 5 year old. All men are different. just be hounest and ask him. what will he say? no?
just ask him straight out if he's ready and if he says no, ask him when he thinks he WILL be ready. negotiate from there

Depending on his reaction you will know if you want to stay married or not.
Drop some non chalant comments...like someone said before that you could ask while watching your 16 month old together "wouldn't it be great to have another one like him/her running around?" That way you can broach the subject without being totally direct. Sometimes that way is so much easier.
I really don't think you're worried about him being upset, but you being disappointed if his response is anything other than yes. I can understand that.I'm ready and my husband isn't. It was disappointing to hear him say that.
