you are correct. you have a period, then you start to build up a lining to support a fertilized egg.. when the egg does not get fertilized and implant, you shed that lining, thus causing a period.
well Im not completely shure but yes the egg doesnt get fertilized so then it breaks down and bleeds out. But do you have to have an egg come down for you to have a period? but as far as I know your right

I always thought the same as you, that the only reason we get a period is because the egg is not fertilized. I have also heard that not every woman ovulates every month but will get their period. Your period is caused by your uterus preparing itself for pregnancy, but because the egg doesnt get fertilized, your uterus sheds its walls in result of what is called your period. This is just like the chicken and the egg. You are both right since you are talking about a cycle that keeps going around and around!! Depending on where you jump in, one could be before or after the other. If you want to get technical, most books and web sites state that your cycle begins when your period begins, and therefore, according to that, you ovulate after your period. But as I said it is all a cycle, so you are both right!!
