When do u get a birth certificate?

They give you paper work in the hospital to fill out and get notarized. After 6 weeks after that you go to your local birth records office to pick up the copy.
Pretty much right after you are born, they take the ink print of your feet and hands and type up the birth certificate to be given to the parents and to be registered with the US government so that a Social Security Number can be issued.
So to answer your question, the certificate will be made right away and you will receive it (if you're the parent) soon after.
I live in Ky and the hospital where I had my kids gave me a paper that was signed and notarized by someone in the hospital that had the child's name and birth date on it. That was just for verification purposes for medical insurance and such. Then they gave me other papers to fill out. They turned them in to the state registrar themselves. In about 4-6 weeks I received my children's birth certificates.
I had to wait 30 days after both my girl was born to get on. I had to go to the record plase to pay for it or you can call and have it mailed and pay over the phone. but I'm not sure what state your in it may be different. I'm in CA So you may wanna ask your or your baby doctor.
