Am off on maternity leave and my work have rejected me to go back past time are they allowed to do so?

They are obliged by law to take you back in to your old job.
However if you wish to move to a part time position, they should give reasonable consideration to your request as it may be possible for the job to be split (i.e job sharing etc).
Most employers would look at this sympathetically, however I do not believe they 'have to' let you go part time although if it seems reasonable for them to do so, you may ask why they are not able to do it and find out whether, because of your pregnancy,they are treating you unfairly.
If you consider that they are, then invoke the grievance procedures and take your grievance up the chain to the highest level of manager indicated in the company grievance procedure policy.
Additionally, I would recommend seeing the Citizens Advice Bureau and or an Employment Specialist Solicitor.
I believe there have been some cases where an employer was found to be acting unfairly where similar requests have been made, but I suppose each case is based on its specific merits.
Good luck though, hope you come through and get from them what you deserve, its hard enough looking after a new child anyway, they should consider your request favourably !!
They they fire you and you start collecting unemployment after your leave ends.
If you have been there for less than a year (in my state) they are not required to hold your job. The laws differ from state to state. In my opinion, 6 weeks isn't long enough to be off anyway. Use your disability, and if they won't let you come back, file for unemployment, and find a nicer employer.

they arent legally entitled to give you part time work, most companies do, but they dont have to. My friend has been in this situation. she wanted to go back part time and they said only full time, o she couldnt go back. The have to hold your job open for you (ora similar one) but they dont have to take you back part time im afraid.
Yes they can do this. They are obliged to offer you the same contractual conditions as previous to your pregnancy so if you worked full time they would take you back full time. If you only want to go part time then they dont have to offer you anything xx
I believe they are within their rights to do that. They have an obligation to consider such requests, but they don't have to agree to them.
