How come just ANYBODY is able to have kids?
I mean, you can have kids before you're legally mature enough to drink! am I the only one who thinks this is a little out of proportion? drinking a beer (or a few too many and being dumb) is totally different than raising a human life! right?
I know there is no solution now, but if they came up with one what would you vote? I say at least 21 to have a kid.
my solution: when you're planning on having a kid (after you're 21) you apply and get approved based on common sense, parenting knowledge, financial situation, etc. Free condoms and birth control methods. Free abortions if needed. And a fine if you are under age and have a kid.
Answer:
You really stirred the pot with this one. What does it take to be a good parent? You don't know until you are one. Catch 22. There's alot of things you can't do until you're 21. But there's alot of things you can do before you reach that age. It's not a perfect world so you have to learn from your mistakes and move on with your life. If that includes a child then so be it. Very controversial question. People may not like you for doing it but, you still rock. You as well as everyone else is entitled to your opinion. That's why people like you are doing what you do to keep free. Thank you. (Right hand goes up to tip of glasses, hand at a forty-five degree angle, thumb flush against finger) You know the position.
Although initially a good idea, it smacks of governmental intrusion and being allowed to breed according to some standard or guideline someone imposes on you
I don't support your little theory. You're crazy
Who would you have judging you for all this? Do you think Einstein's parents would have passed scrutiny? How about Mother Theresa's mom and dad? You can't judge a potential person by the potential parents.
What would work is finding more ways to support young parents, like encouraging more than one generation to live together, like our society used to do. It evens out work loads, lessens use of resources, provides wisdom and patience to harried young parents.
I do not want more government control over my personal life, thank you.
While I truly understand the point, the fact is the alternative.having LAWS and some loser from the GOVERNMENT tell you who can have kids and who can't is just untenable.
I agree that 21 is a good age to start thinking about having kids. It is crazy that just anyone can have a child. I guess thats the way god wanted it to be so thats the way it is!
Well you raise good points and a lot of restriction, and I don't want to go into a full blown debate, BUT I do not think you should be over 21 to have a child. I know women, including myself who have made excellent parents to children who weren't 21 when they had them and TONS of people over 21 who are the worst parents a child could have. Age shouldn't have to do with it, responsibility, maturity and financial status(enough to live on for two/three people) should.
Some people do not plan on having kids. And some people have beliefs that human lives should not be wasted on abortion. If you think they aren't mature enough to raise a child, how could you even think about them being mature enough to cut off another life? Think about it.
oh that would solve everything. you really have no idea what you are talking about. give me a break a law that you can't have kids? and your pro abortion? so what you just don't like kids? i am 23 and i have two children im buying my house and have been married for four years. if your law went to vote i think you would be the only one stupid enough to vote for it. not everyone that has a baby to young is a bad parent. age has nothing to do with it. you can be thirty and still be a bad parent. Maybe you should do us all a favor and get your tubs tied the last thing we need is anymore people with your point of view. good day and get a clue'
god gave us our periods at such a young age to reproduce if we werent suppose to have babies that young he would have made us menstrate at 21 instead of 12.
That's called UTOPIA.
You want a perfect world. Sorry, it does not exist.
We all want our kids to learn to protect themselves and have babies at the mature level.
But drinking and having babies are entirely two different things. One, you can control (drinking). Babies? that's called self control. No one can police that and say you can't have sex now when they are having it. Unless you catch them in the act.
That will be ludicrous.
I AGREE! I say at least over 20 and have to pass a test. And I think that a parent should be punished too if their underage kids gets pregnant or gets someone pregnant. Because even though it was the childs mistake. .. the parents should have a tighter leash on their kid.
This has to be the silliest thing I've ever heard.
How do you suggest the government in force such a rule? I don't think they could at all.
There are bad mothers at 16, 19, 21, 26, 32, and 45 years of age. There are also great mothers around that age. You cannot possibly say you cannot have children--that's a person's right to have children.
If I had it my way "stupid" people wouldn't have children but they do anyway.
Can I ask you a few questions?
What makes you think at 21 a person can be mature enough to raise a child if just a month before they weren't? Is there something else that comes with that age other then a number?
Edit to Add--
Sorry you have issues. Why don't we spend that money on providing better foster care? Why don't we spend that money you suggest spending on this for better hospital care or heck free health insurance for everyone?!?
You have too much time on your hands if you choose to criticize everyone else.
Are you even a mother? Do you even know a young mother?
someone needs to pass a law saying you can't post stupid questions, like you just did. I don't drink no matter what, I don't smoke, I am the best mother i can be and that's all I need. It's the people like you that give young mothers a bad name. I am just as good as you, I own my home, I don't rent, I pay a car note, I rake my yard, I clean my children, they are the happiest kids I know, and what makes you think that you are any better? A fine? You should have a fine for being so ridiculous
Maturity is about state of mind, not the age of the person. Just because someone is over 21 it doesn't automatically mean that they are going to be good parents...whilst there are plenty of 18 year olds who are mature enough to deal with children.
Yours is a good, but infeasible idea, sorry!
Well, in the United States it is a basic right to freedom in our country. The entire government was designed to give the people the freedom to make their own life choices...who would decide what age to have kids? If you ask the gov't to do it then we are no longer a free country..also...who would give the gov't the right to decide what age? You amy think 21 but someone else might be ready at 19 or 20.. who are you to judge?
So many problems with this. First, who gets to decide who has the kids? Surely you can see how subject to abuse this would be. Get a few people who are militantly something-or-other on your board, and the country's screwed. Suddenly, nonvegetarians, or non-Baptists, or two income families couldn't have kids.
Second, China can't even strictly enforce its one child policy. How the hell would we manage something as complicated as this?
Third, how do you pay for it? The US is not in the best financial situation right now, and I doubt that there are many countries with the spare cash handy to lay down for this sort of bureaucratic nonsense.
Finally, and please excuse me, but screw you. My mom had me when she was 19. Sure, there were mistakes made along the way, and life would've been easier if my parents were together, more mature, and richer. But you know what? That made me who I am today, and I like who I am. My mom turned out to be a decent mom, and I'm doing just fine now, thanks.
I had my first son at 20, and I was married, and still am and Now we are having our 4th child 10 years later. I dont think I would have wanted to have someone making me fill out a form so that I could go back home and have sex and try to make a baby. Especially since I was married and perfectly able mentally and financially to have a child. So I doubt that would ever happen, because everyone is different. Some are more mature than others. Even Free condoms and birthcontrol wouldnt work, because that is not always 100% effective, and Definitley no free abortions. That would just go out of control. Its bad enough now. I am glad I had my first son at 20. Me being able to take care of a child had nothing to do with my age.
The tragedy is that you have to have some kind of license, or trained qualification, for just about anything these days. But when it is anything to do with reproduction, society seems to consider it is unthinkable to even suggest that people should not be free to keep breeding, no matter how unsuitable they are, and how incapable they may be to actually take full responsibility for caring for that child, and raising it, and getting it properly educated. As a result, while we, in America, protest our outrage over the treatment of children in other countries, our own children are being allowed to suffer at the hands of the most horrendous parents or other adult "caregivers" - and child welfare authorities continue to return abused children back into the care of their abusers . On the other side of the coin, extreme "religionists" go on yelling and protesting about ANY effort that is made to control the ridiculous out-of-control breeding of our kind. Apparantly it is far more of a sin to make the perfectly lawful decision to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, than it is to allow that pregnancy to continue, and then abuse or neglect the child you never wanted in the first place. Ohh I know people say "have the child and then have it adopted out". Seems to me the whole adoption system in this country is out of wack too - so people wanting a child are going instead to adopt children from other countries. We can't take care of our overpopulation right here at home, and we go and import more.
I do not support your theory, I was 19 when I had my son and he was planned. I had been married for three years and was in college my hubby already had a BA and we were financially stable. My hubbys IQ is 186 and mine is 168. We would have passed your "test" but not the age requirements.
Age doesn't make someone ready to have children! I'm 20 and I was pregnant at 16 and had my first daughter at 17 and my second at 19. I am a damn good mother. And despite how much harder it might have made my life I still graduated high school, a year early at that, and I am giving my daughters a very good life. They are honestly two of the happiest girls you ever would see. There is a wide variety of how people choose to raise there children and why would it be right for 1 application to decide whether you are that kind of parent. Plus, people lie everyday and they would definitely not stop just to fill out an application. To stop girls from getting pregnant they would have to make it illegal to have sex and even then it isn't going to stop anyone. And you are crazy for even suggesting such a thing. Yes, I can say that now I wish I would have waited a while longer, but only so I could have partied more. That's not good either. I look at it like this, by the time my generation are getting ready to have kids mine will be a lot older and I will be able to enjoy a lot of things with them while they are all at home with newborns. Your solution is stupid and insane! You need to just promote birth control because what you are suggesting will never happen anyways.
And on your details, i think everyone realizes the terms of the test, but one of them you made clear is the age 21. If you would of said just a test maybe not as many people would have had a problem with it, but you specified that they would have to be 21 to take your stupid test!
Not anyone is immature under the age of 21. Kids get imacipated before they turn 18 by a judge. I see people over 21 that act like there 12.
I think that is a good idea in a very general sense, but put yourself in the other position. How would you feel if someone told you that you failed the parenthood test and were not allowed to concieve? You have a good point though. I am all for free birth control and the fine for underage pregnancy, but I do not really like the abortion part. Seems like it would promote abortion as a form of birth control.
Girl Im pregnant but I totally agree w/u! Not just anybody should have kids but b/c the world is so highly pop. due to this this is why they have child services etc. I believe its a hard situation but that person has to or should have the responsibility to make the decision to keep it/put of for adoption or whatever they believe in. Don't stress life is to short. But if u r stressing b/c u cant have kids yourself there are other solutions so u can have a kid/kids
sweetie, my kids were both concieved on birth control. I don't believe in abortion so obviously I gave birth to them. Your plan could never work. This plan would completely disregard the right to choose between abortion and giving birth. I don't see America going to a "pro-abortion," country anytime soon.
I have to say I agree with you, to an extent. I think people should be able to have and raise a child if they can financially provide for the child without assistance from the state or government. I have to also say that the girl "greeneyed" is probably full of crap. I find it hard to believe that two people with almost genius IQ's decided it was appropriate to marry as teenagers and bring a child into this world. If people can have a child without living off the system, then it's OK by me at any age.
I don't support this theory either. I personally like my rights and don't need the governement taking anymore away.
