Is it possible for foetus' in the womb to commit suicide?

I have read (offline) that depressed foetus' can strangle themselves mid-term. But I can't find anything online to verify this bizarre claim.

Answer:
sounds absolutly ridiculas too me, how can a baby who doesnt knw anything really except how too suck and kick, and move and swallow anitomic fluid possible be depressed??/ and knw how too commit suicide!! i have never heard anything more pathetic in my life!
i dont think so
i doubt the brain is developed enough to recognize what its doing.
if it does its probably unintentional.
thats because its the most stupid thing ive ever heard, stupid people ask stupid questions
thats really wierd. I have no idea... I don`t think that a fetus would have the will power to do so... they really can`t think about much.
Fetuses don't know about the problems and sorrows of the world. The reason they end up strangling themselves is by accident. Usually, they will move into a position and are accidentally strangled by the umbilical cord. Accident, NOT suicide.

Very much doubt it
I agree with Button Moon - very daft question. Of course it's not possible.
Never heard of this, and most fetuses don't really have a very developed brain so they would probably be incapable of having as advanced an emotion as "depression". Sounds like an urban legend to me, designed to freak people out for no good reason other than to amuse themselves.
Of course not.
Depression and suicide are things that are learned out of the womb. These fetuses have no clue of what it is. Nor do they have the power or strength to maneuver something such as that. A baby can get rapped up in the umblical cord and die yes but not by choice
No.
It's not at all possible. The death of a foetus is always accidental.
WHAT THE F***?
No
UMMMMMM, NO
Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Animals can become depressed so I see no reason to assume that foetus' cannot become depressed but I don't think they would be aware that wrapping the umbilical cord around their necks would result in them dying. Children outside the womb are not aware of this, this is something we teach them (like most if not all dangers) so no I don't believe that true. But I guess it would be hard to research.
Foetus' could become depressed as they share their mothers hormones, if the mother feels depressed so will the baby, it works with all emotions, happiness, sadness, nervousness, all of them. However i dont think they would understand the concept of 'all the depression will go away if i do this'. So i dont think they can commit suicide, but they CAN feel depressed!
ha ha never heard of that
the brain would not be that capable of the kind of thinking & an unborn child can not feel depressed i dnt think anyway
as if being pregnant wasn't stressful enough you get all the horror stories to go with it. Our lives are mapped out for us and for a baby to survive is like an apple on a tree if the apple is bad or no good before it's time it falls off. If this happens as the saying goes try and try and try again. It's no ones fault and it just wasn't your time. As you say it is a bizarre claim and somewhere some pleb decided to scare pregnant women a little more than we already get THANKS for nothing and good luck with everything enjoy and be happy x
its not possible to strangle yourself as when you pass out from lack of oxygen your grip loosens. also a feotus could not strangle itself as a.the hands are to small and b. it doesnt actually breathe oxygen until its born. it gets the oxygen through the cord whilst inside. that is the weirdest thing I have ever heard! and how sad would a depressed baby be. Its enough to make you cry!
JUST WONDERING, DO YOU GET EXTRA POINTS FOR ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS?
no not intentionally they dont do it deliberatly it is if the cord is long the baby moves about alot in the moms womb and it gets tangled round the babies throat
Now what's with all the frikkin thumbs down! my god! You read this in an article that you stated was bizarre and now everyone is giving you a thumbs down for trying to find out more. I was born with the chord wrapped around my neck, maybe I was depressed feotus! lol. I don't think it would happen though, why would a feotus be depressed? Who knows!
a foetus can strangle themselves with the umbilical cord- but this would always be accidental. think about a newborn baby and even an older toddler. they have no sense of danger or depression, and even if they were feeling sad, they wouldn't know what suicide is, never mind connect it with their feelings. so no is the definite answer to your question.
Babies don't do that in utero or out.
