If I give birth after April 2007 in the UK will I receive 9 months of maternity pay or 6 months?
Answer:
Currently 6 months. The government has proposed increasing this to 9 months but this has yet to hit the statute book. There is time for this to happen before april but generally employment law hits the books in October and April so you may have to wait a little while to find out for sure. The change to 9 months may well be accompanied by the right to share maternity leave / pay between the mother and father
6 months x
Probably 6 months the government is stingy.
rumours i have heard is 9 months paid
yes you will receive 9 months paid maternity leave. if your baby is born after april 07 then u are entitled to it. im due on the 5th of april so im not sure if im entitled to it. just need to hang on as long as possible
The law has recently changed so you now get 39 weeks of maternity pay or benefit if your baby is due on or after 1st April 2007.
It's the due date that counts, not the date you actually give birth - they won't penalise you for having your baby early!

From 1stApril 2007 you will receive 39 weeks SMP.
6 weeks x 90% of your income and 33 weeks at the standard rate - currently £108.85 but it will go up a little bit.
