IUD's... Any experience or advice?
Does anyone currently use this as their form of birth control? What are the positives and negatives of using this? Would you reccomend it?
I am 23 and have a daughter and do not want more children for a few more years if that helps.

Since youve had a child the chance of displacement is lower.
You must be in a serious relationship. BC if you arent you are exposing yourself to infections and they are hard to treat with the IUD in place and if not treated promtly may cause sterilization (the infection not the IUD)
Its the safest form of Birth control when it comes down to pregnancy ithas a failure rate of 0.1% and tubal ligation has a failure rate of 0.5%
If you go with Para Guard Non-hormonal and 10 yrs you might have an increase in your monthly flow as well as in cramping. You may have an irregualr period (skip a few)
If you go with Mirena Hormonal and 5 years you will not a decrease in yoru monthly flow and cramping (after the initial 6 months) 20% or women experience no period at all. The level of hormones in it is low so it stays localized and not much gets in your blood stream.
BOTH:
Once removed fertility resumes. However I advice all my patients to allow 2 normal monthly cycles before attempting to conceive.
You may experience acne since it has little to no hormes (depnding onw hich one you go on)
No weight gain since no hormones are in your blood stream or very little.
Best of luck Ive had mine 3 years and I LOVE IT really have no complains but the acne part but Id rather deal with a few pimples than another pregnancy at this time. I also havent had a period basically since it was inserted
all i can say is that it sounds like a good idea opposed to hormonal forms of birth control.
I did use one but found that it gave me very heavy periods. For that reason I had it removed after about 10 months. I now use the mini pill which is sooo much better :D
Here are 2 reasons not to use them. In the 70's when they were first out, I got one. I have so much scarring from it, I was never able to carry a pregnancy to term. My sister now has one. They were supposed to be very safe and no longer be able to perforate a uterus. She is having surgery 11/22 because the IUD has grown into the wall of her uterus, is at risk for perforating her uterus and she may have to have a hysterectomy in her mid-30's. Personally, I don't trust them.
I had a Mirena IUD put in 2 years ago after the birth of my twins. Not only did my mp stop within the first month, but I didn't have to worry about taking any precautions like the pill or depo. Also I didn't gain any weight. They are good for 5 years but I recently had mine removed so that we could try for another baby and my obgyn said that unlike birth control, after the removal we can start trying immediately. He said that having an IUD is like using no birth control at all in the aspects of when you want to try again. I loved my IUD.
