When is a good time to have first sonogram?
Answer:
My doctor did my first one at 11 weeks.
I very much disagree with the answerer who said never. My first sonogram allowed us to rule out 92% of the chance of down's syndrome and several other things. My 5 month sonogram showed that the baby was growing well and also ruled out 80% of other defects, which not only increased our peace of mind, but if a defect had existed, we would have been prepared to deal with it better. Also, I am getting weekly biophysical ultrasounds right now, because I am on medications that could effect the baby. Also, once you can hear a baby's heartbeat, you are much more unlikely to miscarry. Ultrasounds can detect abnormalities in the placement of the placenta, as well.
4 months then 7 months to see the sex
I had mine at 20 weeks ( 5 months) they were able to tell me the sex then.
The doctor will tell you when you should have one. At least 20 weeks to find out the sex, but sometimes they will do one earlier to confirm your due date.
I got my first ultrasound at 11 weeks, but they can't tell you much..that was just to give me an expected due date and see how well its developing, but were going in on monday to find out the sex..anytime around 5 months is good and you can find out the sex..
Most doctors in my area always give a sonogram at around 6 or 7 weeks then again around 20 weeks then one more closer to the due date.
Basically- never. Why would you want to subject your little one to a jarring which is not even designed to do good, but just to satisfy curiosity?
