What's a good name for..?

My stepdaughter had a baby last Thursday (11/9) and I was wondering if anyone had any more modern names for "grandma" since I am only 25 (I married an older man)! I don't want to be Grandma or Granny or anything like that. The baby's father is Italian and African-American, my daughter is Irish and Indian (small part). Any ideas?!?!?!?!?!!?

Answer:
My cousin's daughter calls her grandparents Momo (pronounced Mom-o) and Popo (same again, Pop-o). My kids call my mom Grandma D.D. (her initials). I had a lot of grandmothers when I was growing up, but I never identified them with different names (other than my mom's step-mom whom I called Grandma Byrl {her first name}). I identified them by calling the grandpas different names (Pappy, Papa, etc.) and then saying Pappy's grandma (in reference to his wife). Sorry I can't help any more than that.
Use your first name.
Nana
i have many grandmas, so i call some nana. it doesnt sound old. you can also try like your maiden name, just use auntie, or miss, mrs, or one of your names or something.
a good name for the baby is amosha
My oldest daughter whom will be four on the 21st decided to call my mom GeeGee instead of Grammy. My daughter is half black half white. We seem to enjoy the nickname shes given my mom. Hope that helps
Grana
You could always supplement your first name and add Grandma in front of it...Grandma Jane for example. Or, be the fun, hip grandma and simply allow them to call you Jane. You could always use a "grandparent" name from another culture. In Germany, children call grandparents "oma" and "opa." Be Oma Jane! It has less of an "old" connotation since it's a term not everyone is familiar with. Other terms for grandparents are "Nanna" or "Nanny." Have fun with the new baby!
grams gamma
" Me-Ma" sounds better than Granny or Grandma !
Ask your step-daughter. You don't want to offend her. See if you can come up with something creative and special just to you and your family. I have a Grandma, a Granny, a Lady (yes we call her Lady), my Granny is also Nana to the grandkids. My daughters call my husband's mom Grandma and my mom Granny. They call my stepmom G'ma Marilyn and call my Granny, GG short for Great Granny. You may figure out what Grandma is in Italian, African, Irish and Indian. Although they'd call you Grandma it would be in a different language.
UMM... Use a nickname. and shortin it more...like MerrieElizabeth---> Lizzy---> LIzz--->Izzy---->Iz---->Auntie Iz
Nanna is always good. There't the variation of Nonna or Nonny. My son had a hard time with the pronunciation and he called my mom "Byema". I dont know why. It's hard cause you're so young (so am I and I can understand why you dont want to be granny:).
cant really answer that one, if i did im sure id get yelled at again by yahoo, but thanx 4 the 2 points
mama, nana
my daughter calls my husbands mom "baby nana" don't ask me why, but she did. my mother - n -law, didn't want to be mamaw or granny, so if she doesn't like it, thats what she gets... lol
congrats
my son calls his grandma MI MI and sometimes darling because she called him darling alot so he just started calling her that I have a Nana
Second mom. I've heard some ladies want to be called that if they don't think they are old enough to be a grandma yet.
Jewish people call their grandma "Safta" which means grandma in Hebrew, I actually think it is pretty cool.
i would start with somthing simple and fun like..GiGi and then from there babies develop their own name for you..it happened with my nephew we taught him to call her nana and out of no where started to call her MeMa...
My mom lived in Germany when I became pregnant. She decided to use the German words for Grandma and Grandpa for her and her husband. That's Oma and Opa. Well, my daughter changed it to suit her and now my mom is Moma and my step father is Popa. The Italian word for grandma is Nonna. It would give you something unique to go by. My mom was trying to be unique and she got it. My mom always says "I don't care what she calls me, as long as she calls me." You'll eventually think of something to be called, but just be happy that the baby calls you.
nanas cool... i think EVERYONE calls me nana. that or a variation of your name... something like that. people got nana from my name (savana)
You are young so your title should reflect that as well as a sign of respect how about Mom (and your first name). Or Tita (pronounced "titta" sounds more like "sister") which in my country, The Bahamas, is the title given to the oldest sister of the family a sign of respect to the matriarch.
