What is the average cost to raise a child?

This is for a child development project. Does anyone know what the average cost is? Also, can you give me a link to the website where you got your information? Please dont just say alot of money, I already know this. Be specifc please!

Answer:
That is really hard to even determine, because it really has to do with HOW the child is raised. How many siblings they have.

I have 6 children and am extrememly FRUGAL. I mean I do NOT buy anything unless it is on sale. And I obviously spend less money per child now then I did when I had just one child.

I am gonna guesstimate on how much it takes for ONE of my children to get raised in a year. I will NOT include housing, electric, car. Because I had all that stuff before I had kids and that to me shouldn't be included.

Ok, I figured about 2500 dollars per child I spend a year. That includes clothes, food, school supplies, school accessories(field trips, yearbooks etc.). I know that doesn't sound like a lot. But that is for a young child, they really don't eat that much and like I said I am a sale shopper. Now if I included housing, electric, and car payment divided by 8, which is our household size I would have to add 2100.00 per year.

No websites, but I hope I helped.
That depends on a few factors including where you live, what schooling you use, the gender etc.. Here is a calculator that can help

According to the calculator..because I live in the northeast, it will cost me $500,000 from birth to finishing college.
Depends if he/she will be spoiled!!
Sorry all I can say is it cost alot and I mean alot! I really dont know how these sites ever come up with a figure of how much it cost. Cause there is so many factors that go into it. where you live, clothes, some parents buy more than others, some kids eat more than others, some kids grow way faster than other and parents always have to buy new sizes. Some kids get sick all the time and some dont! so I cant stand when these so called studies try to put a $ amout on rasing a kid. But good luck on your project. I dont really think anyone could ever come up with a true amount on how much it cost to rasie a child let alone 2 or more
It costs on average 300-500 dollars a month to maintain our son. So id say about 3600- 6000 dollars a year.
