Why don't so many askerers choose a best answer?
Answer:
I'm just as frustrated as you are about this, Always do my best and then no best answer! Well I suppose we've just have to accept that some askerers are too lazy to choose!
I agree with you 100%. That drives me crazy, and I also don't mind if it's not mine, just as long as it's done. Because your right about the being appreciated part. I for one actually think about my answers and feel great when I actually "know" I've helped someone.
I was just thinking about asking this same thing! I mean you even get a email that remindes you to choose the best answer. I always do. Plus it is-5 points to ask & when you choose a best answer you get +3 points.
I completely agree with you and it helps generate enthusiasm among the answerers to give their best.
I have wondered this too - and the only thing I have been able to work out so far - is that if it goes to a vote and they vote "no best answer", the asker gets the 5 points refunded.
As you say, if someone has made an effort to give a reasonable answer it is a bit of a put down, but there ya go.
I think also, a susbtantial number of folks who do not pick a best answer are folks with about 11 points to their name - they then just open a new Yahoo account and ask until empty again.
A bit mean of me I know, but if someone doesn't make an effort to answer other people's questions, I rarely bother with theirs.
