California law?

how can a child be immancipated

Answer:
There are basically three ways:

1.) Get married. (This requires parental consent if you are a minor.)

2.) Join the military. (This requires parental consent if you are a minor.)

3.) Get a court order from a judge.

I'm assuming, here, that you're mostly interested in #3.

The requirements for that are as follows:
* You must be at least fourteen years old.
* You must be living apart from your parents with their consent or acquiescence.
* You must be managing your finances and have a legal source of income.
* The judge must find that emancipation is in your best interests.
* The judge also wants to see that you are in school or have a GED.

(You must meet ALL of the requirements and be able to prove it to a judge.)

Remember, too, that filing in court is not free. In Sacramento County, for example, the filing fee for minor emancipation is $314.50. (It is possible to apply to get the fee waived, but nothing guarantees that the waiver will be granted.)

The third link, below, has some alternatives to emancipation that you might explore, too.
