Is left or right handedness genetic?

Answer:
I know it is, but you have to look through the family histories on both sides too. I, a leftie, married twice, both times to lefties (my husband now is ambidextrous, he's in denial...lol), and my children are all right handed. There were no lefties in our families. Prayers =)
yes
yes
left is dominent, and right is recessive
dont think so, im right handed, so is my mother. my sister is left handed and so is my son
Left if I had to guess. Usually one parent is left handed if the child is.
No it is not

Handedness is an attribute of human beings defined by their unequal distribution of fine motor skill between the left and right hands. An individual who is more dextrous with the right hand is called right-handed, and one who is more skilled with the left is said to be left-handed. A minority of people are equally skilled with both hands, and are termed ambidextrous. People who demonstrate awkwardness with both hands are said to be ambilevous or ambisinister. Ambisinistrous motor skills or a low level of dexterity may be the result of a debilitating physical condition. There are four main types of handedness:

* Right-handedness is the most common. Right-handed people are more dextrous with their right hands when performing a task.

* Left-handedness is less common than right-handedness. Left-handed people are more dextrous with their left hands when performing a task. About 17% of people are lefthanded.

* Mixed-handedness, also known as cross-dominance, is being able to do different tasks better with different hands. For example, mixed-handed persons might write better with their right hand but throw a ball more efficiently with their left hand. This could also refer to pianists, because different sections of pieces are usually composed to fit the abilities of the different hands, considering that the right hand is usually for melodies and the left-hand, harmonies. However, some people often refer to handedness as the hand that a person uses to write, so this form of handedness is not usually referred to.

* Ambidexterity is extremely rare. A true ambidextrous person is able to do any task equally well with either hand. The condition is very rare, although it can be learnt (those who master it still tend to sway towards their originally dominant hand).

No one knows for certain why the human population is right-hand-dominant, but a number of theories have been proposed.
I think it is because my mom is right handed and my dad is left handed and i can write pretty well with both
I have heard being left handed can run in the family. Like a father might be left handed and the baby might end up left handed. I wonder though if thats true. I have twin sons who are adopted and so far one seems very left handed. We dont know anything about his biological father though. Interesting question :-)
Don't think so. My wife and I are right handed and footed, son right handed, but left footed.
in my family it follows a pattern: my grandmother had 6 children and they each had 2 children, every second granchild is left handed. Now the second great-grandchildren are turning out left handed, so there has to be some genectics to it.
