Anyone ever have the IUD?

Ok the pill doesn't work for me, the shot doesn't work for me, and I want something easier then condoms. Any one ever have the IUD? How much does it cost? ( I heard it was 150 dollars) I have no health insurance, but can afford a one time cost of 150. Is it just a one time cost? Tell me what you've heard and experienced! Thank you.

Answer:
well, the Mirena IUD is a very good choice. Its the most effective form of birth control on the market with a failure rate of only 0.1% Unlike the other forms of BC, it has no human error factor, so that is really nice too. Its also the SAFEST form of birth control on the market. It lasts up to 5 years, and you can get another one right after that if you want. Or, you can get it taken out at any time, and your fertility will be totally normal again, unlike things like the pill and depo that can make it hard to conceive for a while. I love my Mirena. The only side effect was cramping for a few days after, but heck, compared to child birth, cramping is nothing. Some women have lighter, shorter periods, or no periods at all after using Mirena for a year. Its a great option, in my opinion. People have horror stories about IUDs, but those are from the old ones back in the day. Mirena is way safer than even taking the pill. I dont know about cost because my insurance covered mine, but I do know, that in the long run, its cheaper than taking the pill. Unfortunately, because of that, many doctors push the pill on people because it makes more money for them and the pharmaceutical companies, even though the pill may not be the best option for that person. It is just a one time cost, but rather than pay it in one chunk, some doctors may let you pay it in payments. You wont have to pay for it again until 5 years later if you want to get another one put in. Insertion is just a quick in-office procedure and is no more painful than getting a pap smear. Getting it taken out is no more painful than getting it put in. Good luck!
Try going to Planned Parenthood, they have lots of ideas of different types of birth control and are on a sliding scale.
At planned parenthood it is based on income and will be anywhere from $175 to $500.
I have the Paragard--and i must say i am really pleased with it. The paragard for me is working great! I have had it for 2 yrs now--like you the pill did not work so after i was blessed with my 2 children i put in the IUD-paragard and now i don't have to worry about a daily method or anything like that--i just make sure that everything is normal at the end of my periods. My menstrual cycle is longer now--my periods last anywhere from 5 to 7 days where before it was only 3 days--sometimes i do feel cramps while on my period but apart from that it is and it has been really good.
you should check out these websites--i am all for it!

Good Luck!
The cost can vary greatly, depending on who puts it. It can be anything between $150-600. I have no idea how much I paid for mine, since insurance covered it,
If you have it put in a family planning clinic, they charge on a sliding scale, you will probably pay a bit less. The cost includes an exam before they put it in. You really need to have that exam done, because you can develop serious problems if you have an IUD put in while you have an infection.
It is a one-time cost, but you have to have your annual exam once a year every year after you put it in. However, you need to have an annual exam if you are sexually active, with or without IUD, so it does not make a major difference.
Also, if you talk to your doctor you can order it online and they deliver it to his/her office. In that case, they let you pay in installments - just $38/ month which is comparable to the cost of pills if you do not have insurance.
It is the best kind of birth control I've used. I do not have kids, and the insertion hurt like hell, but it got better soon. I still have some cramps once in a while, but the reliability and the convenience are so worth it.
If you have had a child, the side effects are much more mild.
I think the IUD is great. I had one for 26 years back then you could get an IUD for 5 years or one you never had to remove (they don't make the permanent one anymore) I never had any trouble with it but finally had it remove because of other issues. There has been a lot of controversy over the IUD (older ones) and they took them off the market but they are making a come back. Iam not sure of the costs today but a $150 sounds about right and the pill & shots costs more over time. Iam not one for taking pills and I think the IUD is great you have no worries unlike the pill & shots who knows what they do to your health?? I think its good for about 5 years. There are health clinics that provide this service if you qualify.
