Unfortunatley steriods can cause children to be very grumpy and mean. I work as a Respiratory Therapist and I have seen many children in what we call Steroid Psychosis because of this behavior change. I would continue the medicine as her physician ordered it, usually they are only on it for a few days. This medicine is very important for an asthmatic because it reduces the inflammation in the airways. As a mother, you do know best, so if you want to change her medication I would take her to a doctor and see what they recommend for a change.

Yes, steroids make a person aggressive. But you have to be very careful taking her off of it. She should have been weaned slowly as her body is not making cortisol while she has been on the steriods. You need to discuss this with her doctor at once. This is can be dangerous for her since she has asthma.
Asthma can be over-diagnosed...typically, first time mothers tend to overreact when their children are sick and doctors over subscribe steroids..which are very dangerous for children because they can change growth patterns, both mentally and physically. My son had acute asthma as a young child, but has since grown out of it (he had a steroid based inhaler). Please be careful when giving your children drugs as powerful as steroids. Yes, that happens even in adults. Ask your doctor. Sometimes steriods are the only option and the personality change is something that your daugther and your family is just going to have to deal with while she's on the medication.
