How can I find out which books are best for my child?

Answer:
you dont say how old the child is but here goes

babies newborn to about age 18 mo. thick hardboard, or plastic books are best...also allow the children to use regular books with assistance also the same with touch and feel books. be sure you offer the child as many books with real pictures as you can only use cartoon type pics as a last resort(helps with language aquisistion)

18 mo to 2.5 or 3 yrs.thick paper pages, add some regular books to the end of the time period....be sure to continue to read all sorts of books to the child along with allowing the child to "read" alone. continue to use real pictures in the books more so than "cartoon" ones and be sure you offer a variety of topics and styles of books--stories, poems, magazines, newspapers

from 2.5 or 3 to around 5-6yrs continue to add varieties of books and textures of pages, add some books that include the childs interest(dinosaurs, pets, airplanes, vacations)about this time also children may take interest in collecting a whole selection of one particular author(bernstein bears, curious george, spongebob, shel silverstein, ebwhite,) even if they cant read by themselves try to read to them on a regular basis to encourage them to do so also...

you get the idea if you need more help talk to your childs teacher or to the librarian at your local library there are lots of ways to choose approiate books for children.
any books for kids are good! go to your local lybrary, they may have some guidelines to follow on choosing books. mainly though use your head!
you can start by reading them. Ask yourself: is this a good lesson? does this book has the values I want to teach to my children?
The best book for a child was , is & will be - The Life around itself !

Children Learn What They Live

If a child lives with criticism, she learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility, he learns to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule, she learns to be shy.
If a child lives with shame, he learns to feel guilt.
If a child lives with tolerance, she learns to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement, he learns confidence.
If a child lives with praise, she learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with fairness, he learns justice.
If a child lives with security, she learns to have faith.
If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself.
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, he or she learns to find love in the world.
