Is it normal for his sleeping pattern to change like this at 7weeks?

For about 2 weeks now my 7 week old has only been sleeping for about 3 hrs at a time now. He was sleeping for about 4-5 hrs? His routine during the day hasn't changed. Could he not be getting enough to eat? I'm breast feeding, and I know I have a pletiful supply because he doesn't even drain the whole breast noramlly at a feeding, and only feeds on one side at a time. I can't get him to feed for more than about 5-10 mins at a time, then he stops by himself and seems content? Is this noraml? !st time mom if you can't tell!! Thanks for any help

At this age the sleeping pattern can change in any way. Baby might be sleeping anywhere from 1-5 hours in a row. Since you're supposed to feed him by demand at this age - he might be going through a growth spur, so he needs to eat more, or he might have gas, many reasons. Do not sweat this, it might change all the time. And BTW at about this age 3 hours in between feedings is normal, especially if he does not eat a lot at a time.
My youngest daughter did this to me. My pediatrician said that she was using me as a pacifier instead of feeding. Keep your feedings at the same time that you had them and substitute your breast for a pacifier at other times. Just make sure that your baby is feeding strongly at feeding times and this should settle back into a normal routine for your baby. Try putting on one of those heart sound gizmos too. Good Luck.
you should talk to your doctor and you are not providing enough information. Is he feeding more often? does he sleep in short bursts but more of them?
though since he is feeding and eating you probly don't have anything to worry about.
That sounds pretty normal to me. But you are the mama and know him better than anyone else so if you think there is a problem call his doctor. Mother's intuition is better than any advice you can get.
Baby's routines change, sometimes even day to day, based upon their need. Eating every 2-3 hours is normal for an infant.

My daughter has a tendency to fall asleep on the first breast, looking sweet and content. What I've learned to do is to change her pants half way through feeding.that wakes her up just fine for round two. Since she's sleeping through the night, her morning meal takes her only about 5-10 minutes because I'm so full...and she can be satisfied for the next four hours. A lot of depends upon how quickly you "let down"...that is, how quickly it takes for your milk to start flowing on its own, and how quickly the milk flows out.

Just watch the diapers. If he's wetting them every feeding and pooping several times a day (or one big major poop a day), then he's probably not starving.
