What is so wrong with joining the PFA?

I couldn't believe the person who said she found people in the playground dull and then went on to say that they must belong to the PFA (and make their own ravioli).
I was a member of the PFA and we worked damn hard to raise money so that all the children could have things like toys, play equipment, computers, etc etc.
I understand that some people can't be bothered, but why sneer at the parents who do care enough to put in a bit of effort?

I didn't read the question you're talking about. I've been on the PTO board {parent teacher organization} I tell you now, it wasn't such a great thing. The people I worked with were rude to me and eventually phased me out. I was on the board as the treasurer and t-shirt sales. I also worked bake sales, family nights, book fairs, EVERYTHING. On top of that I also worked in my son's class 2 times a week for 3 hours per day. In total I put in well over 200 hours and was the first to get an award from the principal for it. I think back now and there are things that should have been done differently.

I don't know about where you live but in my area the PTO is a bunch of upper crust stuck up snobs. I'm not rich like they were, and they didn't like me. I had good ideas, the principal told me so. But I couldn't stand the snobbery that comes from it.

But, if a person hasn't actually WORKED for a school they should keep their mouths shut because they have NO idea how hard it is. It's a lot of work. And if your on the actual board it's even more work. We had two meetings a week on top of everything else I did. I was at the school until 8 or 9 a lot of nights. People who don't contribute to their child's school don't know how very hard it is.
PTA??

There is nothing wrong with being in the PTA, I'd join to if I had time.
PTC (PFA?PTA) is a GREAT program. Our local PTC raises thousands and thousands of $$$ for our school each year. They work hard to support our teachers with volunteer work and additional supplies that the school district can't provide. They organize and fund great field trips for our kids. They do so much for our children and I am proud to be a member. (I would also love to learn to make my own raviolo...LOL)
there is nothing wrong with it! don't let anyone you tell you different. I would love to join my sons PTA but as a secondary school teacher myself, I don't have the time!

Good on you!
It's just jealousy speaking.

Some people do and some people *****.
Yeah and I also notice it can be a bunch of conrol freak snobs, Who have WAYYYYYYYYY to much time on their hands. If you have time for that crap, you have time to get a second job or do somthing to better your own life. Leave your kids alone. Stop drooling over everything about them
