By the time my average sized son was in 6th grade he was wearing an adult size 10 shoe and I thought his feet were huge! I was also broke from buying shoes every eight or ten weeks. However, when puberty hit and everything on him grew but his feet...which is to say he finally grew into them at age 13.
On the down side, even though his shoes still fit, we had to buy new clothes!
I wouldn't worry about it. Kids grow at different rates and the rest of him will catch up with his feet!
Every three months sound about right, they are kids, they run through everything pretty fast.
He is at that age. It will slow down as he gets older. Just be happy, it means he is healthy and growing.
I think that YOU should make that determination. Press down on the front of the shoe... if their big toe is close to the top, it is time to get a new pair. Or if your child is complaining it is definitely time to get a new pair (they are the best ones to judge that!) If the shoes are getting worn out you might also want to replace it but only if it is truly falling apart.(holes in the shoes parts falling off, etc.)Hope this helps!!
my son is five and wears a size one kids shoes already, I am buying every 2-3 months, I buy about 1/2 size larger to get a bit more time, but like you the shoes are barely worn and we need new ones already, his father wears a size 14, and I wear a 9, my son is expected to be about 6'6", He is 4 ft tall and wears a size 8 in boys already, so I am not expecting him to slow down any time soon
instead of buying him new ones every three months maybe find a friend or neighbor with an older son that could hand down cool gently used tennis shoes, i wore hand me downs all the time, just wash them in the washing machine before the first time he wears them.
