For parents of 4th graders?

What time does your child go to bed on school days. My son asked me what I think is the average bedtime, so I thought I would do a little research for his answer.

Answer:
I have a 5th grader and her bedtime is 9:30. Sometimes she'll go to bed earlier than that. When she was in 4th grade, she had to be in bed no later than 9:15 (I've always done where my kids can stay up later and later every year)
9 pm on weeknights, and if she wakes up crabby, that night she has to be in bed by 8:30. Prevents morning fights.
9 was our bedtime growing up until middle school. earlier if we were obviously tired.
My 9 year old goes to bed at 9pm. She gets up at 7:30am.
I work with kids and that was a homework assignment recently. We came up with 8:30. (7 fourth graders)
I have a first grader and one in kindergarten...they go to bed by 8:30. I think 9:00 or 9:30 would be a good bed time for a fourth grader.
My 4th and 7th graders both go to bed at 8:30 on school nights and they get up at 6:30 am.
9pm. When he goes to sleep any later, I can't get him up in the morning. If your son goes to bed later and has no problem getting up in the morning, I don't see a problem with 9:30 or 9:45pm. Each child is different and should be treated accordingly. If your son gets up on time and does homework and does well in school, if he's in the middle of a show or video game, I wouldn't make him stop right at a certain time, I don't with my 10 yr. old. Problem is most days after my husband and I get up at 5:30am and work 10-12 hrs. a day, we're the ones ready for bed at 9pm! We don't allow him to stay up while we are asleep.
I found this off the Nemours Foundation--Kids Health site:

"Kids ages 6 to 9 need about 10 hours of sleep a night. Bedtime difficulties can arise at this age from a child's need for private time with parents, without siblings around. Try to make a little private time just before bedtime and use it to share confidences and have small discussions, which will also prepare your child for sleep.

Children ages 10 to 12 need a little over 9 hours of shuteye a night. But it's up to parents to judge the exact amount of rest their children need and see that they're in bed in time for sufficient sleep.

Lack of sleep for kids can cause irritable or hyper types of behavior and can also make a condition like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) worse."

So, what time your child goes to bed at night depends on what time he gets up in the morning.:-)
Sounds like your son wants to stay up as late as he can!!

You can tell him that most kids in South Korea DON'T have a set bedtime. BUT!! They usually go to school from 8am to 2 pm, THEN go to 2 or 3 private schools (language, music, tae kwon do, etc) for another 3 hours! AND they go to school for 1/2 day on Saturday!

By the time a student is in high school, students are going to bed at midnight or 1 am and getting up at 5 or 6am as they are studying for their college entrance exams. They usually go to school ALL DAY (7 am to 4 or 5 pm) on Saturdays and from 7am until 10 pm on weekdays.
wow, these answers are very interesting...they make me feel like I was doing something wrong..lol...When my son was in 4th & 5th grade he had 8:00 bed, but he was kinda hard to get up in the morning.he's in 6th grade now so when he started Jr. High I pushed it up an hour to 9:00.good luck!!
Bedtime for mine is 10:00 PM, they get up at 6:30 am.
It depends what time the kid has to get up to go to school. In 4th grade, my daughter did not have to be at school until 9AM (up at 8:15AM) so she was in bed by 9:30. My youngest is now in 3rd grade but needs to get up by 7 AM so she is in bed by 9PM.
My 4th grader goes to bed at 8:30 on school nights. Usually 8:15 and then we read for a bit...and at 8:30 its lights out! My 6th grader stays awake until 9:00 - 9:30.
9pm on the weeknights, and on the weekends, unless we are out. This way my children stay on a schedule. They get up and go to be around the same time everyday, it makes Monday morning easier. In the summer they are allowed to stay up later between 10 and 11 depending on what we are doing. I move bedtime back to 9 about 2 weeks before school starts back, and I start waking them earlier until they are getting up at school time. Usually they are getting up and ready by school time a week before school starts back. That way their bodies our adjusted, and they can be well rested for school.
10:00 PM AND MY SON IS UP AT 6:45AM
my son is 8 and in third grade, his bed time is 9 pm if its any later than that he is really crappy the next day so 9 is it for him, we have tried a lil later but it just wont work for him.
8:30 pm tv off and quiet time ... she usually reads until 9pm ,, she gets up at 730am usually with no problems
when i was in 4th grade it wuz 9
I have a 3rd, 4th and 5th grader so we start at 8:00 for all them but by the time the hand out all the hugs, kisses and goodnites, let the dogs out and brush their teeth its usually 8:30 when lights go out. My youngest has ADHD and wont crawl out of bed until 7:30/7:45, but the other two are up ready to go at 6:30 which makes morning less stressful having them ready when the little one gets up. No more fights in the bathroom with the toothpaste if ya know what I mean!! I can focus on just him which makes for a smoother transition.
10.00 or 10.30pm my daughter is a morning person no problems shes 11
my son goes to bed in between 8:30 and 9:00, but sometimes doesn't fall asleep until 11:00. I let him read for up to an hour then make him turn out all lights (before 10). Then he just lies there until he falls asleep.
It sorta depends on the homework. When I was in 4th grade i was in a more extended class for math and reading and that teacher gave us a ton of homework and you could be up hours and hours later trying to figure out what it is ur doing. +the fact that well i don't know if ur kid plays sports but I always wanted to be in bed no later then 10 It was reasonable and worked really well.
My daughter goes to bed at 8:30-9:00 and gets up at 7:30
