Can a school refuse to teach a child because they haven't got the right foot wear?

my son has been told he cant have lessons because they say he is wearing trainers his has been wearing them since september they came from a shoe shop i think they are a shoe trainer ive agreed to buy some new ones at the end of this month but they say he cant have lessons

Answer:
If there is a set uniform for the school, yes they can. The only
kind of different footwear that can be worn are the corrective
type when prescribed by a doctor.
yhyh ive known them...depends tho...shitty brown mostly
If its a private school-
At the school where I used to work, kids couldn't wear shoes with black soles because they left behind scuffs on the gym floor. They also couldn't wear shoes with any type of cleat or projections on the bottom because it scratches the gym floor. Yes, they can refuse to let your child take gym due to shoes.
Unfortunately they can - I had the same problem with my daughters school. However, contact your local MP to intervene and sometimes they can overide the schools decision (if they are trainer type shoes that is and the school are being petty in their decision) xxxx
Yes. When your son joined the school you would have been given a uniform code. If you didn't agree with it, you shouldn't have sent your son there.
At my sons' school, they send you home to get your hair cut if it's too long, and teach you in isolation if it's too short (until it's grown longer again).
It sets a standard and the kids on the whole don't look scruffy. I'm all for it.
He should comply with the rules or find a school that does not have the same restictions
It's rubbish i know, maybe they just think to conform with crappy rules IS teaching?

It's a bum deal and no one has a choice unless you wanna move him to a new school but I guess thats not fair on him.
Ring local Education Welfare Officer avaliable in phone book under "councils" & ask them.
Each LEA has it's own set of rules
It risks opening up a pandora's box of arguments, and i personally think your son should be taught, but usually at the start of school a agreement is usually signed by parent, child or both stating the school's agreement to accept your child under the conditions of. I remember "correct uniform as set by the school" was one of the conditions on my form i had to take home to my parents.
Make an appointment to see the head. Explain that you will be replacing these trainer shoes with normal shoes at the end of the month and ask if you can come to some kind of compromise. I think the school is being unreasonable, but dont go in all guns blazing. go and talk calmly and listen to any kind of advice they give. They may even have a hardship fund where they can lend you the money for shoes till you can repay them. It sounds as though they are being bloody minded, but if you tackle them intelligently, then they must see your point of view. Knowing your situation, they should help you out. Depriving your son of his education is counter productive and I think is against every policy the education committee holds
Good Luck xx
yes most schools have you sign a contract when you sign for your child to attend the school, in that contract you sign that you and your child will keep to the school rules as uniform is a school rule this is how they get around it
If the school has rules about what footwear has to be worn then you have to follow them..period. Go get him new shoes today.
well i think that is unfair. my school shoes are just black trainers, and no teachers at my school seem to care. you should probably talk to a mp or you could look on the government's website and see if there's anything about schools refusing 2 teach him. because you have said you will buy some school shoes at the end of the month i think he should be teached because other wise i maybe fall behind on important work
Yes they can. It seems like every time I go to pick up my son from school there's a kid in there with the wrong shoes. They banned those shoes with the skates. So they call the parents. Doesn't your son have more than one pair of shoes? My boy has 3 to 4 at any given time. We're not rich so we buy them at Kmart or something. In fact we got two pairs last night for less than 30 dollars. I don't know what trainers are though. But even in PUBLIC schools they have dress codes. Just because they go to public school doesn't mean they can wear whatever it is that they want to. Dress codes are enforced.
I never heard nothing like that before.I don't know what shoe ware have to do with education.I think you should go to the board of education, cause I think it's stupid, next they're probaly make a big deal about what type of hairstyles you should wear.
If your child goes to a public school system that has no dress code than no. But if your child goes to a public school with a dress code, a public charter school, or a private school than yes. The idea behind making each child wear simular clothes is to keep distraction down, even shoes. Most schools have parents and children read all the school policies at the beginging of the year and sign that they understand them. If you don't follow the rules in any way the school has a right to put their foot down. It shows that when you or your child make a promise (sign the agreemnt of understanding) that you must keep it. It is also a way to show respect by following rules, no matter how small and meaningless they seem. It can teach the child that when you can't follow directions there is a consiquence. I personally understand the fact that maybe you dont' have the proper shoes at this time and I would have a meeting with the school administration team (the principle or headmaster) and tell them the situation and see if there is some kind of compromise that can be agreed upon.
They can say he cant have the lessons but they CAN NOT give him a bad grade because of it. If they do go to the school board with it.
No they can't. And what lessons exactly?
Plain and simple, NO!
thats typical coming from a school they want you to buy all this expensive uniforms etc but are really fussy.i wouldn't buy him any new ones unless he needs them coz u r the parent and ur children wear what you tell them to not a bunch of teachers that think they can boss every one around.good luck
This is absoloutley crazy! Why should it matter what he wears on his feet? He has the right to an education. Have you tried talking to the headteacher? If it is a private school, this would make more sence, but even so. still crazy!
some schools have stupid rules unfortunately, but all the same, the rules have to be abided by otherwise you may as well let parents take over ! Trainers are scruffy for school,i don't think it looks nice if you see a smart looking kid ,with all the correct uniform on,and a pair of trainer type shoes!I don't know why that affects him taking lessons, but still ,its what they have requested ,so I guess you will have to just bite your tongue and buy a new pair of proper shoes
no they cannot do this it is discrimination what could possibly be wrong with his trainer(unless they are those "heelies") because some schools have rules against them. if not you should contact somebody about this it is not fair your son is missing out on a education because of his trainers. you never know if the school are proven wrong they will have to pay some kind of compensation for your son missing out and possibly falling behind on his work>

HOPE I HELPED
then his teachers are really stupid, my neice wears trainers to school and she has lessons..
tell his teachers that they have to teach or they are stupid in their thick minds
