My (almost) 6 year old and tying shoes?

My son has just started school this year and I thought we had tying down. He was doing so well, then he started school and it seems he's forgetting some of these kinds of things. Now he insists he doesn't know how and it turns into a big ordeal every morning before school. I remember when I was little there was a song that helped me remember when I was having trouble... but I can't remember it now.. go figure.
My question is does anyone know where I can find some kind of song or video that I can show him so it will stick once he has it?

Answer:
Just tell him that if he can stick to it, you'll buy him a nice game or something. Trust me, he'll learn!
The Shoe Tying Song

Wanna learn how to tie your shoe
It's a very easy thing to do
Just sit on down and I'll give you the scoop
What's that?
It's called the loop de loop
You gotta take a lace in each hand
You go over and under again
You make a loop de loop and pull
And your shoes are lookin' cool
You go over and back
Left to right
Loop de loop, and you pull em tight
Like bunny ears or a Christmas bow
Lace em up and you're ready to go!
You make a loop de loop and pull
And your shoes are lookin' cool
You make a loop de loop and pull
And your shoes are lookin' cool
There is a book on children's book of the month club website.
I heard of a good idea, but didn't actually try it. Tie something big, like a rope belt around your waist. It helps to see what you're doing. But, your son sounds like he's just not really interested in struggling with it in the morning when he's tired and not happy to be leaving you. Maybe he just needs a hug and a little encouragement to be responsible for this. some kind of reward, etc.
good luck!

If, for now, "regular" tying is something he forgets, tell him just to tie the two laces once (one basic knot). Then tell to make a loop with one lace, a loop with the other lace, and tie those two loops in the same kind of basic knot.

The shoes will stayed tied, its quick and easy, and some day he'll ask you to teach him to tie "the right way".

(To the best of my knowledge, I "invented" this way to tie when I was five or so and just couldn't get the regular kind of tying to "work right". If I recall correctly, the problem had to do with a dexterity-type-of-thing involving the point where you pull the lace through before it will form the second loop.)
Ask your son's school's Occupational Therapist -- they often have neat tricks to help kids tie their shoes.
By the age of your child, I would assume that he likes cartoons such as Spongebob Squarepants. In one of the episodes, Gary the snail sings a song that teaches one how to tie their shoes and its actually very catchy. Maybe you can look it up, and show it to your child.
