My nephews like Bionicals. They're like Lego's. They have a wide variety of prices and styles. Or like someone else said, Spiderman anything.

Spiderman anything!! i have many younger cousins and they all like spiderman and spongebob squarepants and all of those super hero things. i would go to target or walmart and find any toy featuring those people and ya can't go wrong. or you could get some artsy-craftsy type of "big boy" thing, that way you can be pretty sure he won't have it already.
Boys always love cars, trains, trucks, dinosaurs, or action figures. I work in a pre-school...these are what most of our boys like!
Unpainted, wooden blocks, in a cloth bag.
Wooden blocks are 5 dollars, and the cloth bag is 2.
a big box with styrofoam beans (the ones they use in ups shipments). believe you me, it doesn't get any better than that

First impression is to give him a a 6 year old girl LOL - sorry. There are remote control cars etc out there for about $19 bucks. They also love things that are confusing like building sets, in line roller blades and "manly things" like an cologne, deodorant, a camera .
i,m sure he would love a puppy..or maybe an easier to care for pet. a turtle or hamster.
Anything Hot Wheels..they have cool little 'cities' and such for like 10 bucks.
well since you don't know anything about this kid or what toys he already has then maybe a gift certificate/gift card.

I have two boys ages 8 and 10. When they were at that age they liked to play with matchbox cars, balls, or plastic dinosaurs or other animals. All these items can be found at any Dollar General for next to nothing.

Toy gun that shoot the soft foam discs...boys of all ages like them. My son got one for christmas and he played it forever. He is 26 years old and is coal miner. He finally took it home in his great big chevy truck. he showed every one what he got for christmas..He was so excited. We got one for our 6 year old grandson...he likes it too

try to look along the cars and action figures. try a lightning mcqueen car or a mater truck from the movie cars. i have babysat alot and that seem s to be the hot thing.
