Nosebleeds?

My 6 year old sister has 3-5 nosebleeds a day. Is this normal?

Answer:
that many nosebleeds in one day is not normal. My son and husband get nosebleeds on occasion from dry air, (something about their blood vessels being really close to the surface of their skin). When it does happen have her lie down, apply light pressure and ice to the nosebleed. If it lasts longer then five minutes, most doctors (and school nurses) say that you should be concerned and take them to see a doc because there may be a clotting issue with the blood. To prevent them (especially with a young child it may be an issue) stress the "don't pick your nose" (if she does - gross right). Also putting a cool mist humidifier in the room where she sleeps to add to the moisture helps, the dry are causes most nosebleeds. Sudden elevation changes, like running down stairs, or standing up quickly can also cause them. As often as your sister is getting them though, I would highly recommend that she see a doctor, it is always better to be safe than sorry. Best of luck.
It depends on whether she is picking at her nose or not. Either way she's losing blood (that's a bad thing). If she is not picking at it, you may want to see a doctor... I forget what it is called, but she may have the disease that prevents blood from clotting. Take her to a doctor if you think this may be the case.
Normal, no! Cause for concern, probably not. I used to have frequent nose bleeds when I was growing up through high school. Your sister should ask the doctor about it. There are procedures that can be done, especially if the bleeding doesn't stop in a realistic time period.

I found it helped to have an ice cold small towel on the back of my neck, tilt my head back, and apply light pressure to the bleeding nostril. The downside was that it always felt like I needed to blow my nose.
It's not "normal" if it happens over a period of time. Is she sick? Many children get multiple nosebleeds while they are sick because of sensitive noses.
Also, nosebleeds can be caused by dry weather or certain nasal sprays.
It could also be that she is getting one nosebleed and then peeling out the congealed blood (blood that is drying in her nose- kind of like a scab) and that is causing her nose to start bleeding again.
If these aren't applicable then she should see a doctor because it could be a more severe issue.
no thats not at all normal. she needs to see a doctor and find out what is causing the bleeding so much. in the mean time when her nose starts to bleed have her sit down and put her head back and put a cold washcloth on the top of her nose.
if she's not a nose picker than you should take her to the doctor because that is not normal.
3-5 is a bit much. My son gets horrible bloody noses in the fall and winter from the dryness. And when I say bloody noses, I mean fountains of it and bright red and thin. I have to have a humidifier going all the time. If you live in a dry climate (wintery areas), try that, but also make sure and go to the doctors before you try to remedy this from the internet!
