I have a physically challenged nephew because of this he wears a diaper to bed..?

Problem Is Id like to go out sometimes but dont feel right leaving him with a sitter. hes very sensitive about the diaper issue and I dont want to embarrass him. Im trying to take his needs and feelings into account. How do i handle this?...I want to go out now and then but dont want to leave him with a sitter because of the diaper issue and find out years later hes been really traunatized by it. Any suggestions how I can get around this besides never going out?

Answer:
Try this one, Take him to a nursing home and/or childrens hospital to volunteer his companionship. He will quickly see that many many other people other than babies wear diaper type garments. For kids seeing is believing. As well as look for a sitter that is certified as a CAP worker. She will be more than used to this.
Try getting some goodnites that he could put on himself when going to bed. Then he doesn't have to be embarrased. Even if the babysitter needed to help him they aren't nearly as embarrassing as diapers.
Go out after he's been changed and ready for bed. If it's daytime and he can change himself; get him the adult pull up kind. If he is too physically challenged to change himself I guess you'll have to make him comfortable with the sitter for a few weeks before you can go out for an extended period of time. I am sure if you have a mature sitter, and he becomes comfortable with her/him, he won't feel so bad about someone (especially if they care about him, and are sensitive to his feelings) changing him.
Get him ready for bed before you leave. You can bathe him, or have him bathe himself, put on his diaper and regular clothes. When its time for bed all he will have to do is put on his pjs. But I guess it depends on how long you intend to stay out.
