I say, go for it. We have really made Christmas our own this year at our house, and you should, too. Of course, you could maybe go to relatives houses or open just one teensy gift on Christmas, just in case the idea doesn't go over with everyone. You could also go do something Christmas-y on the actual day, like loking at lights, or serving food at a shelter, taking meals to the needy...some tradition to honor the actual day. Good luck! How to convince the kiddies Santa comes to our house late is the problem.
We have a Christmas after Christmas with our kids when we spend Christmas at the grandparents house. What we do is just have a couple small gifts that the kids can open the morning of and then tell them that santa left more at grandma's house. If you could pull it off by saying something like that, you could give it a try. You'd probably save some good money!
I don't know, I just think Christmas should be celebrated on Christmas. I have thought the same question though. It would be easier or at least cheaper.
I think it is a great idea, I just don't think you will be able to totally pull it off. Kids know when Christmas is. Their friends tell them. Plus that is when everyone does it. You would have to get all of your family to agree, and really most people start shopping in October. So try it and see how it goes. Good Luck
We have our own personal Christmas celebration with our children on Christmas Eve day and give our children their gifts at this time. Then, we celebrate Christmas day with one side of the family and the day after Christmas with the opposite side of the family. If you are going away to grandma's and grandpa's for Christmas than the chances are that your children will not even care about having a bunch of gifts at home. So, yeah, within 5 days after Christmas would be fine.
I guess it's fine for younger kids at the age of 1 or 2. Much older kids...give them gift cards and then just go shopping the week after christmas! That way, they can "have their cake and eat it to"!~
We had Christmas in February 2 years ago. My husband was just coming home from his first deployment. I didn't have a tree set up, but I had presents wrapped and waiting for him.
Since my wife is originally from Russia, we actually celebrate 2 Xmas'. We celebrate the traditional Christian Xmas on the 25, then do Russian Orthodox on January 7th.
