I am a librarian and I am planning my 2007 summer reading program. It is primarily for 5-12 year olds, though if a child's parent brings them, they can sign up. I am looking for a theme of sorts. It will consists of 4 sessions, in which to read a story and do a craft or something, any fresh ideas?
Answer:
How about something about culture. You could do 4 different cultures, read a book about or from the culture and do a craft that is native to that culture ex. japan and origami. If you did not want to do a craft every time you could even sing a song or make a food from the culture you are doing. Hope this idea helps. Good luck!
How about something to do with ancient times? You could have the kids create costumes, the older ones could make a food or they could do crafts that were common in those ancient times. (My 3 and 6 yr old boys love costumes and cooking)
Why not having them talk about what holiday they celebrate during the winter season. (ex. Christmas). You can have them look up facts about the holiday's history, present, and possible future. They can do the project in groups of 4-5. Then they can present their information creatively. They can do a play, ect.
