Nintendo sp and DS are both popular. Mine also loves building toys like magnetix, legos, bionicles and such. He will play with some action figures, like GI Joe but not very often. He is more into things he can do with Scouts, like hiking and building bird houses and stuff like that too.

10 year olds love video games, but you might want to be careful with violent video games. Look for the M (Mature) to make sure you don't get ones that are for adults.
Boys in general also like legos (castles or pirate ships)
You can always ask him what he likes too or fish around for something he likes that he saw on TV. I'm sure you'll get an answer. Is he artistic? Get him a paint set or something to stimulate his creativity. Kids need more than video games they need learning activities that are fun.
What about a musical instrument. A guitar would be a great gift too.

Toys are the action figues.Don't say dolls either.I said dolls one day to mine and he said.Excuse me mom they are action figues.Whatever cartoons he likes to watch there is an action figure for it. Guns that make alot of noise.Plus they have these great squrit guns that shoot forever.Games are the small hand held games.Like nintendo or game boy...
