What Christmas gift do you buy for the teacher from the whole class?(don't need homemade ideas yet)?

As room mother, I have had to collect $$ for Christmas gifts for the teachers and I would like any good gift suggestions. I am sure the teachers have plenty of knick-knacks with "World's Greatest Teacher" on them. Any original ideas? Any teachers out there have something they would really like to receive?

Answer:
they like anything from there students but it asol can depend on how much u want to spend and what grade the students r or just give the class some ideas and vote and asol see what kind of stuff the teacher likes like what stors or places she/he eats u could probaly get gift cards because thats what my 4th grade class did and our teacher loved it.
How about a big basket full of goodies. If she/he likes soup then get a basked full of soup mix and some bowls/spoons. Or if the like ice cream...same thing. Or maybe just an eclectic basket full of all sorts of goodies that they can use/eat through out the year.
A package of Starbucks coffee beans. A gift certificate for the local mall. A class photo with sentiments from each student on how the teacher has helped.
I went to Bed Bath & Beyond yesterday and they had a lot of nice stuff to give as gifts. You might want to go there and pick something up. Here are a couple of things that would be nice:

A simple and tasteful necklace or bracelet. Nothing to do with school, but could be worn anywhere. Oh. I just realized I'm assuming it's a woman! For a man, you could give a gift card for a c.d. store, or a movie theater, or some such. Good luck!
Ok I'm going to take a stab at this since you are asking :-)

If you have collected from the whole class and assuming its a couple of dollars per child then you have a few dollars to spend.
Why not get something for the teacher that she can use with her family or for herself if she doesn't have a family since most teachers spend so much time preparing for their classes not only at school but at home too - some nice *free* time that is relaxing is always appreciated !

- coupons for the movies
- gift certificate for a local nice restaurant
- a relaxing time getting a manicure or pedicure or massage (you will know which teachers would enjoy something like this but don't do it for themselves)
- who complains of never having the time to do some tiding at home - how much would it cost for a cleaner for 1/2 a day? I'm sure some busy teacher would surely love that (I would have)
- who is into bowling etc - coupons for evenings out with friends or family
- I would use my vehicle for transporting students - sure could have used an interior car care service every now and then for cleaning it out (ok more like shoveling it out it seemed lol)

You get what I mean - just something to give the teacher some fun relaxing time with family or friends away from the school or home..... or something special that they have been longing for ... or something that they need or wouldn't expect.

Maybe you could find some unique gifts that you like.

Merry Christmas!
They have these nice mug sets at Walgreen's, they also have some nice sets of earrings and bracelets in target. Nice stuff like that I'm sure they will appreciate. Good Luck
I would say a gift basket with gourmet food items.
My kid's class collected and got a mall gift certificate for their teacher, each kid is making her a card. Not as personal, but she can use it at any of the stores.
You could get her school supplies for the next year... Glue, tissues, just a combo of different things.. It not only helps her out, but also benefits the class... Or something for the class.. such as an educational video appropriate for the age group... just suggestions...
gift card
Try finding out what the teacher like and maybe get a basket and fill it with things that they like. If not then depending on how much money you collected then maybe get a gift card to a place that they like or to a place that they can use.
Why not give "massage oils". after 8 hours at school off and on their feet,his/her body could use pampering.. Or maybe a gift card for a professional message..
The teacher can always use pens. Let them get creative with it. They can decorate them or something.
Thank you for not getting knick-knack with "World's Greatest Teacher!" I have been teaching for over 12 years and have tons of things like that!

I enjoy getting gift certificates. I get a lot from places like Starbucks, so stay away from that. I have gotten gift certificates from book stores, nail salons, a massage parlor (I loved it!), clothing stores, and restaurants. Since I am an avid reader I love the ones from the book stores!

One year, I got a gift card that I was able to use at any store in our local mall. Many malls are doing this now. It was great because I had tons of different stores to choose from! That would be my first pick. Check it out! Hope this helps!

Teachers adore gift cards!
I've worked in schools for 9 years (as a speech therapist). I liked most things, but my personal favorites were: chocolates, coffee items (coffee itself, Starbucks gift cards, insulated mugs), gourmet hot chocolate mix to make at work, all kinds of paper/stationery products, Blockbuster giftcards, certificates for MaryKay. We're pretty grateful for anything!
As a teacher the best gifts I got were the ones made by the kids.
Our school has the room parents go in for one hour during the week before school gets out. The room parents do a special art project with the kids. One year, they bought canvas totes at Walmart and had the kids decorate them. Another year they tye-died scarves or ties for the teachers.
Other gifts that we have received in the years include:
a survival basket: hot cocoa mix, candy bar, bath salts, etc.
* basket of homemade goodies
*gift certificate to a box store
* games for the classroom for rainy days
